Adding strength training to my routine

Recommended Posts

Need some advice. I'm about 12 weeks out RNY. I've been doing great with my weight loss and with walking everyday. I decided to add strength training to my routine twice a week. I feel great but have also been feeling exhausted- if that makes sense. Lol I'm having a hard time with fluids. I work a fast pace job and barely able to drink 12-oz during my work day. Then pushing fluids after work isn't easy either. Might get 36oz a day...52oz on strength training days. Im sure this could this be causing exhaustion. I'm getting about 800+ calories most days. My question is...my trainer wants me to increase carbs...good carbs...for working out. Is this something I should do? I'm kinda panicked about adding carbs. Anyone have any advice for diet during hard workout days?

Is your trainer aware of your surgery? Can you find a trainer that works with bariatric patients? You are pretty early out to be increasing carbs. At 12 weeks I was able to eat some salad and some veggies but focused mainly on getting in enough lean Protein. My surgeon told me good quality Protein is what is important if I am going to be strength training. Water is super important too.

I am so glad I followed the advice of the PA who works with my surgeon and started strength training at 6 weeks out. It has really reshaped my body. Good luck to you!

Thank you. :)

Yes, I informed her of my surgery. And she is a friend of mine as well so I know she is looking out for my best interests. I just don't know if she knows enough about the diet for someone who has had this surgery. She explained the reason behind adding carbs. She suggested eating 25g of carbs an hour and a half before workouts. So I either eat oatmeal or I have a KIND bar and a protien shake 1-2 hours before workouts. Guess its time to make an appt with my NUT. I know I need to increase fluids. I'm really trying.

So, did you just focus on protein when working out? I'm actually getting 80+ on workout days. Did you have any issues with being tired/exhausted?

25 grams of carbs before a workout is not that much and oatmeal is a good choice. Try it and see what happens. 80 grams of Protein is great! Dehydration can cause fatigue. Try to focus on getting more Water in at work, maybe set a timer. Take a water bottle with you when you workout too.

My surgery was Jan. 7th. I have added good carbs back in small portions. The adding of carbs may give you more energy. Are you having lab work done regularly? I am taking weekly nasal B12 which really helps with my energy levels.

Thanks for your feedback. :) I'm gonna try to get more fluids. I kinda think that is my main problem. Good luck to you too. :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
