Loved ones not supportive.

I would love to bring him to an appointment, but there is 9nly one place in canada that does the sleeve. I'm in BC and their in Ontario. So it's literally across Canada.

Montreal as well has great Bariatric surgeons. My doc does the sleeve as well. I traveled from toronto to Montreal for my revision. When I live in vancouver I went to Seattle to get my band...that was 11 years ago

You need to put you first. If you're not running at 100% you can't be good to anyone else. I told my boyfriend that I was getting it 2/3 the way through my appointments. To be honest he's scared I'm going to be skinny and leave him. I'm not. If he left I would kiss him goodbye. I don't think people realize that someone 100 lbs over weight is "sick". It's a cry for help. I think you need to stand your ground but be loving about it. Reassure your not going to leave when you loose the weight.

My husband doesn't want me to have the surgery. When an appointment went a few hours he told me to walk out. I didn't I stayed. This surgery is for you and your health. You have to do this for you. If you can't find support at home find it in friends and others. And support groups. Some people are just afraid of change and might try to talk you out of it.. I pray you do this, do it for you and your health.

I'm wondering if anyone had issues with husbands and in laws not being supportive. My husband was on board until his mother got involved and now he forbids it. I'm wondering if anyone went along with their decision even without the support? Did they come around after? I'm really stressed and bummed out. I need to hear some simular stories and how they panned out.

Hi there

I had my gastric sleeve procedure in March this year. I waited for two long years because I didn't have the full support I desired from my husband and select family members. I had to come to grips that this was my health and wellness at stake, not theirs. Here I am eight months later and 108lbs lighter feeling better than ever! Yes you will need support but they love you and probably will come around once you've made up your mind.

Cheers and good luck your way,

My husband & I just had the sleeve done together on November 7th & it was best experience ever I wouldn't change it for the world. This was a joint decision with my husband because we want to live a long & health life together. So I suggest you try talking to him one more time so he can understand this is 1st for you but you both will benefit in long run. Far as his family I really wouldn't care what they think you didn't marry them you married him. I didn't even tell my family I was going & they still don't know I really don't think it's their business. I'm so sorry to hear your husband not supportive right now but I really hope he changes his mind.

My wife and I have already had discussed that our parents will not be brought into our decision making progress.

I would supremely pissed if we made an important decision and i found out that my in laws were meddling. I'd be over the top if she sided with her mom after we had decided for ourselves something involving my health.

For what it's worth, we are both very close and open with our parents. It's just understood that opening up and sharing our decisions with them does not open those decisions for discussion.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
