I still take Vitamins. Though I think it's unlikely you will find one that has everything you need, since you need both Iron and Calcium and you can't take both of those at the same time, since they compete for absorption.

For my Multivitamin, I still take Vitaleph, which is the one my surgeon recommended. The instructions say to take three per day (spaced out), but I have only been taking two a day for over a year now and my labs are good.

For my calcium I was taking Citrical Max +D3, but even though I am on a PPI, my primary care physician told me I could cut out supplemental calcium since I am getting so much from my diet and to just take D3 by itself. I just take my grocery store brand D3.

My nutritionist from my surgeon's office also wanted me on a probiotic, so I am still taking one daily. I use this one: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B002S1U7RU

Finally, I use a B12 spray every morning. It's this one: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00K5NEPJY

Those are all the Vitamins my nutritionist/surgeon wanted me on. In addition to those, I take Vitamin C, coq10, and Omega 3 every day. I was taking those before my WLS and have continued to take them since.

For me, Vitamins will forever be in my life. That being said, they probably should have been a part of my life before surgery. I had it in my head they would not really do anything for me.

Most people dont realize that when you are morbidly obese, you are also likely malnourished.....yet malnourished! We ate too much of the wrong things!

I am not aware of any one Vitamin that will give you everything. Most Vitamin regimens are given to us based on the results of a nutritional panel.

For me i take a multi, D3, B1, B12 and lastly the most important one is calcium citrate chews. All of them are cheap with the exception of the Calcium. I buy my other Vitamins at walgreens on a buy one get one free deal. There is enough in one bottle for a years use on the multi and the D3. B12 is a sublingual liquid and i only take that once per week...those bottle have lasted me two years.

Calcium on the other hand....I use bariatric pal chews and they are about 30.00 per month. I either buy them on here or Amazon, whoever has my favorite flavors for the cheaper price.

Calcium is not cheap but critical.

I also take my Vitamins ( I tend to forget them so I have to get work on remembering) this is what I was told by my team.

I take Celebrate CAPSULES 2 per day, I take SELENIUM 1 a day, Citracal/ vit D3, hair skin and nails 2 daily extra Vit D 3 capsules ( I live in Oregon so we need the extra)and I do Vit B 12 sublingual 1 time per week. I no longer have my monthly so I don't need Iron. All of my LABS are great. I always took a multi Vitamin before my RNY so it really isn't too much different just take a few more Vitamins

Twin Lab Bariatric chewable Vitamins or optisource multi vit. For Calcium I use the chews (like star burst!) or sometimes the gummies. I use B complex sublingual drops and just started taking some Vitamin D and Biotin again.

I still take a chewable pre-natal Vitamin but I really don't need to. I'm 2.5 years out and all of my labs come back perfect as I no longer diet and eat healthy portions and Snacks throughout the day.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
