When could you eat fish post-op?

Recommended Posts

I've found it so interesting how VSG post-op plans vary from surgeon to surgeon. Obviously, the best option is always to follow the plan that you're prescribed, but I'm curious - at what point could you start eating soft fish (canned tuna, salmon, etc)?

about four weeks out. Suggestion, keep it moist initially.

I was allowed fish on purees -- as long as I pureed the fish! That was weeks 4 - 8 for me. I could have fish without pureeing starting at the soft foods phase, which started after 8 weeks on my plan.

In the soft foods stage which for me is day 17 post-op. I am day 8 post-op right now. Clear liquids days 1-3, then two weeks on full liquids, then soft foods (and I'm looking forward to it so fingers crossed it goes well!)

I had fish at 3 weeks but the fish you listed I wouldn't consider soft. You want something white and flaky. Salmon is dense, I rarely if ever eat it. tuna is dense and can be hard to digest also. The same with crab. You could have lobster, it melts in your mouth.

@@perspectiveiseverything We might have the same plan ???? ???? ????. I cannot wait for some tuna or something... I had creamed Soup today and it had small pieces of chicken in it.. I would chew the chicken till I couldn't do it anymore and then spit it out but it was sooooooo satisfying to chew ???? ???? ????

I was 14 days for soft foods. On day 15 it was my wife's birthday and I took here for a nice meal. I had ahi tuna with wasabi and soy sauce.

I was allowed canned tuna in my puree stage at 2 weeks out and baked tilapia, swai, cod etc in my soft food stage at 4 weeks out. I was released to all seafood at 6 weeks out, I tried grilled shrimp around 10 weeks out and it was a no go. Still the only thing that has hurt my sleeve.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
