I have been worried about this as well because my hair is already so thin I wear a wig and weaves so no one can tell. I'm just scared after the surgery it'll be even thinner or I'll be completely bald and will have none of my own hair to help secure the wig or weave. I've been taking Biotin Forte for the past 2 years and it doesn't seem to help at all. Guess I'll deal with it when and if it happens.

My hair is thin and light blonde. I stopped using coloring products, and heat. I used major expensive shampoos and conditioners. It was scary for me, but now that I went through it, I only wish I had black hair because I saw some cute black wigs. I wore my wig almost 1 1/2 years, and it was so close to looking by my hair that no one even knew. Never buy a wig without trying them on! I have five I will end up donating to ACS.

I'd be careful with weaves- you may damage the hair even more.

Just like some folks lose more hair regardless of what they do or take, there are those ---like myself who never experienced ANY Hair loss.< /p>

We are all individuals and like everything else---WLS wise----we react differently.

Try not to stress yourself about impending hair loss. It just may not happen. Stressing itself may exacerbate and bring hair loss on..

Wishing you a joyful journey and an hairy head! :)

I really wouldn't worry about it. You can start losing hair for all sorts of reasons surgery or no surgery. I was super ill post op and lost a massive amount of weight in eight weeks plus I already had thin hair that was shedding beforehand. I couldn't tolerate any Proteins, took no Vitamins, supplements and was only on 200 to 400 calories a day for three months.

My hairloss is no more or less than before the surgery.

My dermatologist recommended minoxidil but the problem with that is that once you start it, if it even helps, you may have to continue to use it permanently to sustain your hair gain.

It bothers me from time to time that I lose hair, that my hair is thinning and I am seeing a dermatologist to make sure there is nothing medically wrong with me, but in reality, it's no big deal.

@@fancypants11578,

As you know, hair loss is common after weight loss surgery. You have a lot of great suggestions here. All you can really do is do your best, and hope that you are one of the lucky WLS patients who does not lose too much hair. Along with staying nourished and taking good care of yourself, luck plays a major role in how much hair you lose.

You have gotten a lot of good ideas for Vitamins, with Biotin being the most common one recommended for healthy hair. Along with Vitamins, there is general nutrition, since the malnourishment that can happen after WLS can lead to Hair loss. Do your best to get in the Protein that your surgeon and nutritionist recommend, usually around a minimum of 65 grams a day to start, and often more than that eventually.

You can also try to prevent hair loss by taking very good care of yourself. Hit your Fluid recommendations or go past them every single day, even though it is really tough after WLS when it is hard to swallow or you feel full or you don’t like the taste of Water or flavored water. Try to get enough sleep and lower stress. I know they are easier said than done, but even being aware of how your lifestyle can affect hair loss may motivate you to look at your entire life and take good care of yourself.

Good luck! No matter what happens, think of the benefits and also remember that your hair will grow again.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
