Not getting in your water/protein is only going to make your physical and emotional difficulties worse, believe me. You must find a way to force it in. Right now, Water and Protein aren't food, they are medicine; life-saving medicine that you need to heal and become healthy. It gets better! Try to remember why you did this in the first place, and try to imagine where you'll be a year from now: fully healed, healthy, maybe even at goal weight or close! To get there, you're going to have to trudge through this pit of pain and struggle, but I promise you: it DOES get better. Just keep reminding yourself of that, because it is absolutely true, and stick to the plan as best as you can. Hang in there. <3

I am 3 days post op and still in the hospital. I will tell you that I was not at all prepared for the pain level I am suffering. It is unbearable. I am not. Baby and have a pretty high tolerance for pain but, I feel rather deceived that no one told me this was going to hurt like it does o look at the clock and count down minutes till my next pain med dose and sometimes cry .i can't help but question my decision now!

It took me 2 months to be able to reach my Water and Protein goals. What you're going through is normal and part of the process. Every day will get better. Just do what you can and keep trying. Almost 7 months out and I don't even feel like I had surgery anymore, I just eat less and weigh less and feel fantastic. You will get there too! Keep your head up!

Right after surgery, you body is in a major heal mode and it is common for patients to not be able to meet their Protein and Fluid goals during the first few weeks. But keep trying and you should be able to get there. And since you are 2 weeks post-op you should almost be able to meet these requirements.

The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight.

Weight loss is achieved after surgery through volume control. You begin at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. With this minuscule amount of food, it is next to impossible to meet your protein daily requirements by food alone, so therefore you need to rely on supplements such as Protein shakes.
After my RNY surgery, life improved almost every day but it still took time. I think I reached my happy state at around 6 months. That was when almost all the problems seemed to melt away.

I'm pretty sure all of us felt this way top begin with. I swear taking a shower nearly made me pass out for the first two weeks. I hated EVERYONE who continued to tell me, "it gets better/easier. " I felt like they were telling me what they thought I wanted or needed to hear to try to help. You know what though, after that two weeks it really did get better. I no longer was crying over everything. I was able to taste food. I had ridiculous poundage dropped. Now, 5 months later, I'm down 82 pounds.

Trust me, trust us, it does get better.

I am home now and they feels a little better. The pain I awful and I don't think gave me enough. Everything hurts including my back because I can only sleep on my back. I am starting to sound like all these other people I judged for being so negative. I hate that. I do have a positive outlook on life and this decision.

I guess I feel so blindsided by the pain and lack of mobility.

Give yourself the time you need to heal. Before you know it the crappy part will be a distant memory. It gets so much better!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
