No drinking with meals?

"She definitely was not eating the right things. Went back to her old habits"

Unfortunately, new post ops don't understand that as capacity naturally increases (the reason why it happens aside), the more important it becomes to eat healthy, nutritious foods or we will be right back to where we started.

It's really such a shame when I see this amazing tool squandered. I think we all know someone who has gained most of their weight back after a surgery.

I completely agree. Not everyone gets a second chance like us and personally, I'm going to do my best to not screw up. This is actually my 3rd chance already (band to sleeve conversion) It's sites like these that keep me motivated. I love sharing, learning and reading other individuals stories. Best wishes to all of us!!!

I don't drink while I eat but I don't wait 30 minutes after to drink. I usually start right after eating. I never felt hungrier if I drink after eating. It's actually quite opposite. So far all my blood tests have shown normal nutrition and I'm on now Vitamin pills.

I never in a million years would have said what I will now; I can't drink and eat at the same time. It is uncomfortable and I can't eat enough if I try drinking while eating.

Yeah it can not only fill you up or push nutrients through too fast, it can make you throw up. Like an overflowing glass is how it was explained to me.

U will get dumping syndrome if u eat and drink together. Meaning explosive diarrhea, nausea or upset stomach, very fast heart beat, sweating n so on. This mean if u drink Water at the same time ur having food then the Water is helping to dump the food into the small intestine before it has been broken down. So to avoid this, do not drink water 3 mins before eating food and 30 mins after eating food. Hence if u decide to hv lunch at noon then stop drinking from 1130 to 1 pm. Hope this helps.

In order for the stomach to work efficiently you need to let the stomach work on the food only. Fluids -I assume you mean water- will Water down the stomach acid and not allow it to break down your food correctly. One doctor told me he has never served drinks with his meals. He was slim and trim and said the stomach works effectively without added fluids.

i know everyone is different but i'll be a year out in October and i drink and eat whenever i want (yes, even at the same time with meals). ive had carbonation, ive had alcohol, ive had carbs. now as a general rule i don't do the carbs, carbonation nor sugar, i keep it pretty Keto, but i CAN if i want without issue.

if you aren't very far out definitely listen to your nutritionist just letting you know things get easier and your tolerance gets higher for certain things. just be patient.

I actually asked this question too, and in addition to what everyone said above, I was told that it can also stretch your pouch.

My doc said our "pouches" cannot be stretched because the elastic portion of the stomach had been removed.

If you couldn't stretch your stomach then why would they have sleeve revision surgery? Is VERY possible to stretch your new sleeve or pouch out. That's a huge reason some have issues with weight regain after a few months post op WLS

I was at dr today for my surgery follow up and leak test. The technician showed me several xrays of patients who did not follow the recommendations and the sleeve stretched.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
