Soft Stop Anyone???

Recommended Posts

Is anyone familiar with the term "soft stop" in reference to knowing when to stop eating? From what I read it can be anything from a sigh to a runny nose to hiccups. I have the sigh one. After eating almost the reccomended amount of food I sigh. It's not anything I consciously do, it just happens out of the blue and when it does I stop eating and find that I am perfectly satisfied! I can and have eaten past my soft stop, but only on a few occassions and I think I feel best when I don't. :)

Boy, I wish I were satisfied. I probably am, but my head hunger is soooooo strong.

For me the soft stop is either a hiccup (or hiccough if you prefer) or a little marble in the throat feeling. Not like a stuck feeling, but just like a little marble.

That is absolutely FASCINATING!!!!! I'm trying to think of what kindof signal I get...sometimes I get a little nauseus for a second. Kindof wish I got a specific soft stop like a runny nose or a hiccup because that would be like a big fat stop sign waving in front of me. Whatever I get is very subtle. I think I need to start listening to my body a little closer and see what it is saying to me....

I totally agree that it is amazing! I wonder how many other things our body is telling us that we could be aware of if we would just 'listen' closer!

hm let me think...most of the times I eat a bit more (like 1oz.) than I actually need.If I think about it when Im eating I can recognize when Im full...for me it basically means that Im not hungry anymore.

Yep hiccups are a sign that I ate more than Im supposed to.

Its all about listening to your body and recognizing if it is head hunger or pure hunger...nicely said but I have to learn that too:-)

Yes, head hunger versus true hunger. When I'm truly hungry my body lets me know without a doubt when my stomach starts growling like nobody's business! Never heard anything so loud come from down there before banding!

Sniffly nose here. AND it happened before being banded too!!! I have begun watching and talking to others who are not banded and find that they get it too. Was just telling my Mom today at lunch when she dug out a kleenex, that it was her body telling her to stop eating. She looked at me like I grew an extra head, looked down at her barely half eaten salad, and finished her meal!!! When there is no pain to follow the soft stop signal....I guess there is no incentive to stop. Still kinda irritated me the way she blew off the idea!!!!

He he ever since I read this thread I have been 'investigating' and have now found I burp!! Isn't it amazing what our bodies tell us when we listen. I had one day where I just kept mindlessly eating andonce I focussed again I realised that I had burped for the past five minutes and I felt terrible. It pays to listen!!!

Just this morning I read this:

When you eat according to your body's cues, chances are 90% of what you eat will be for nurturing your body, and 10% will be for nurturing your soul, and both are important.

I believe it is quoted from a book called Intuitive Eating

Has anyone heard of it??:)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
