Antidepressants post RNY....do I need a different prescription ?

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I take Wellbutrin XR (extended release) and Celexa for my depression, works very well for me.

How do I take these meds post RNY? Will they be able to absorb? I am pretty sure I should not cut or crush the extended release Wellbutrin....do I take a liquid form? Is there a liquid formula?

Is this a question for my bariatric surgeon or my prescribing psychiatrist?

How have you done with antidepressants post RNY?

@@KristenLe : when is your date and which surgery are you having? Where? I feel like you and I have been meeting up a lot in these threads, I didn't realize you were pre-op, too!

@@gina171 Unfortunately I'm STILL pre-op! It seems like forever! I have my pre-op appointment with my surgeon 9/14/16 and hopefully will be scheduled for Sleeve soon after. I have my Upper GI Series, EKG and labwork on 8/10/16 - hopefully all goes well with those tests and I don't end up delayed.

@ KristenLe do you have a waiting period? Where are you getting it done?

I'm at Duke, and they have been great at booking me through pre op tests and appointments super quickly, BC I need to be back at work by 9/15. If I couldn't be recovered by then, I'd need to wait til April BC of work cycles. All I have left to do is Pre Op day on August 11, then RNY surgery August 18th.

I really can't believe all the tests they do.... I feel like I've had the most comprehensive health work up that I've ever had!

@@gina171 I had to go through 3 months of nutrition and psych/counseling. I was approved by insurance back in June (end of June). It took a while for my surgeon to submit the orders for the pre-op testing - apparently I'm the first person ready to go through the process at this new location and the staff weren't sure what the surgeon typically orders for pre-op testing. That finally happened last week. I go to the Miriam Hospital Weight & Wellness Center. They are a great program that has been around for years (Center of Excellence) but the site I go to just opened in March and I seem to be the guinea pig to get kinks out of the process. Hopefully things go smoothly from here out.

I take lexapro and clonepins and i crush them or split them in half and take them. I didn't have any issues...other than the taste... But when I see my psych I'll review with him. I have found that when I don't take them, they clear my system in two days as opposed to four...not doing that anymore

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
