HOW do you drink so much?!?!

Recommended Posts

Before I even had this surgery I drank about 1 litre a day, I've never been a big drinker and don't get thirsty often..

I've been advised to get 2 litres after surgery.. And I find it an annoyance. Like.. I'm not thirsty, And I really get annoyed that I have to force myself to drink so much.. Also because I don't eat much it literally goes straight through me and I find myself constantly going to the toilet.

I guess what I'm wondering is, is it 2 litres that were supposed to be drinking? How much did your doctor advise??

I was advised just under 2 liters (the equivalent of 1.9 liters).

I kept a big insulated thermos type bottle with me and sipped constantly, as well as taking in Protein Shakes, broth, etc. which all count towards the liquid you need.

Eventually your body does get used to it and you aren't running off to the toilet quite so frequently ;)

Plus, as you add in more food to your diet, you'll get more of the liquid you need from the food and you can cut back on the pure liquid you drink. Regard it as a temporary evil that you need for healing.

In the beginning, I didn't have the 'it ran through me' problem. My problem was I couldn't drink anywhere near the recommended amounts. That was very frustrating, for I loved to guzzle Water (and milk). But as the stomach swelling eased, drinking was possible. Now I can do ~ 3-4 oz at a time, wait a bit then get in more. I use straws for my evening Water drinking. Love them.

It all gets better.

I had the 'water goes through me' and i need to pee as soon as i drank Water problem... the dietitian advised that i add a pinch of salt to my water to enable it to "stick"... it actually helped.

It really makes a difference when you drink enough fluids. It can be broth, sugar free popsicles, tea. You won't always have it go right through you. Stay strong!

I wonder this too. I'm not much of a drinker, it would take me a week to drink 2L of Water. I've relied on sparkling Water to hydrate myself but I've been told that I will have to give that up.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
