Newbie and Frustrated

Recommended Posts

I had my balloon placed on July 11 and I'm very frustrated. I honestly had a very easy time the first week. Some nausea and cramping but no vomiting at all. Placement on Monday and went to work on Friday. I have had a very easy time with my diet though the first week of course I ate very little but even the second week I felt very little restriction and had no reflux at all. Last Friday that seemed to all change which I actually welcomed because after all the physical reminder to eat less is what I paid for as assistance to my weight loss efforts.

I think my frustration is because the weight loss part just isn't happening. I am not at all looking for the magic pill. It seems to me that just by the numbers of calories in, calories out I should have lost more than 3 lbs. I go to the gym 3-4 days a week, I have a personal trainer and I'm eating less and cleaner but just getting frustrated. I guess I'm scared that I'm the one that the balloon won't work for. Anyone else start out SUPER slow and then the weight loss picked up? Thanks for your responses in advance.

@@aejmom - the first couple/few weeks your body is still adjusting. You could be retaining fluids or even in the midst of a hormonal shift, so don't fret. I know that @@jansluv started slowly but she just completed a successful journey with the balloon. I've done fairly well with my weight loss, but I've still had plateaus and even gains. I know that it's hard not to measure success daily/weekly, but it's really best to look at the month overall. So give it time ... you've only just begun. In the meantime, be gentle on yourself. :-) Best wishes!

Yes, I lost VERY little the first 3 weeks...like barely 5 pounds, when everyone else had lost like 15 in 3 weeks. I was SO frustrated and worried that maybe it was leaking or my metabolism was shot. I started to work out at that point and tracked every calorie I ate and then the weight started to come off.. But it was slow and steady the first 3 months. I never had any big drops. And then it stalled...so be prepared that that might happen also. It's not a magic pill, unfortunately, and I had to work for every pound I lost. Have faith - if you are eating 1200 or less calories a day and getting exercise in, it will come off.

Not a balloon patient here but I would just remind you that 3lbs per week is a lot!

I had my stomach rerouted and made into a tiny little pouch. After that initial month of quick loss, I averaged between 3 and 10lb loss per MONTH.

I am guessing that your body is also adjusting to I the new program and that can cause things to slow down as well.

I don't know the balloon well enough to comment on the rules but I am guessing plenty of Water is one of them as well. I do know regardless of what diet people are on Water is almost the conduit to weight loss. Many time people don't realize just how important it is. Could this perhaps help?

I just want people to be realistic, a 3lb loss is actually quite good. Celebrate and keep moving forward.

I agree! 3 pounds a week is excellent. My balloon went in on April 22. I've lost 38 so far and while its slowed down. This averages out to 3 lbs a week basically. Relax you're doing fine.

Thanks for all your comments! 3 lbs a week would be great but I'm looking at 3 lbs total in the first 3 weeks so of course I'm a little stressed. I'm headed to the doctor tomorrow so we will see. Thank you for sharing your experiences. @@jansluv and @@Wayward Traveler I appreciate your reassurance and am inspired by your progress. I hope in a few weeks the results will be different.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
