Post op weight gain

Recommended Posts

OK what am I doing wrong? I was banded on 9-14-07. On the pre-op diet of shakes and salad I lost 23 lbs. Since the 14th. I have gained 5lbs. back. I figures that since I am on the liquid diet that I have probably had too much broth (sodium). I can't find the fat free and the low sodium broth so I chose the fat free. I was told that this is a time of healing and not to worry about the weight gain but I don't like it. Has anyone else gained weight after the surgery? :help:

Hi,

I gained weight as a post-op too.

Don't worry about it.

Focus on practicing the lifestyle moodifications that will make you a success with the Lap-Band.

One more thing, I recommend you not weigh in except at your doctor appointments for the next few months. That will prevent frustration and "Scale Anxiety" from sabotaging your weight loss.

I am glad you asked this question, I never even thought about all the sodium in the Soups but I did buy low sodium when I could find it. I had my surgery on Monday and am up several pounds right now...I figured part of it was swelling but I feel good and have followed the 'rules' to the T so far....kind of frustrating not to see that scale move downward at all, even after several days of eating basically nothing. Hang in there PLNJC, I am going through the same thing as you right now.....I am just so anxious to see some results, it stinks.

Hi,

I really recommend you stay off your scale if it makes your frustrated or anxious.

The time immediately after surgery is time for healing and practicing the lifestyle modifications that will make you a success.

If a focus on scale weight makes you frustrated or anxious, you may develop a "What's the USE?" issue which will make your journey much more difficult.

I gained after surgery too - nine pounds! I was crushed about it, but it came off in about week and it's gone down more since. My high was 324. I was banded on 7/26 weighing 287. On 7/29 weighed 296. This morning I was 270! Down 54 and very happy about it, just a little anxious about not having any energy yet.

I gained 11 pounds after surgery and was DEVASTATED!! I though I had made a huge mistake by having the band...just hang in there, it will start to come off, I promise...and stay off the scale if you can, you will only feel worse!

Everyone is right...your body is still healing and adjusting to all sorts of things which will make your weight fluctuate a bit right now. Most of it is Water and will easily go away. Please...don't weigh yourself right now. Focus on learning the rules and getting the hang of the band. Once you get a little more into a normal routine things will settle down. It is true...focus on healing and not on trying to lose weight right now. Your body has been through a lot and trust me...if you follow the rules you'll see progress soon. This is a very normal stage to go through!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
