Congrats surgery is Monday for me. I had a little emotional melt down yesterday but thankfully my husband got me out of the house and it passed. Good luck!

I will pass that along, and thank you. We try hard, and really care about our patients.

We get your health history for the team of doctors and anesthetists who will be putting you to sleep for surgery. When you come in for surgery you actually undergo two procedures: surgery AND anesthesia so we need to make sure there are no hidden factors involved that might make anesthesia unsafe for you. When you come in, a nurse or technician will get your vital signs and then a nurse will get a detailed history (including some questions that make you go...huh?). You will sign your consents and we will do some lab work and testing, including a urine nicotine level, so don't pee before you get called back! You will see the actual anesthetists or anesthesia MD on the day of surgery after we have a chance to review your lab and testing results to make sure all is well, and the vast majority of times it will be. We bariatric patients will already have been through the medical mill before we ever get to surgical assessment. Every facility is a little different but that's how we do it at Flowers.

Anything valuable to you should be left at home but other than that I really don't know of anything specific. I just would bring the minimum of what you think you will need to be comfy for a night in the hospital. Bring some house shoes with a grippy sole because you'll want to be up walking as soon as you're able so you can get rid of the left over CO2 gas that will be floating around in your innards[emoji1]

You will not need a gown. You will be hooked up to ivs and it's best to wear the hospital's gown.

I will remember the spoon tip. Anything to help! Funny how we take simple things like chewing for granted!

My wife and I will be having surgery August 31st, with Dr. Marker. We are on day 4 of the liquid diet. It's been a lot of hoops to jump thru, but the goal is in sight. The staff at the weight loss clinic and Dr. Marker's office have been great. We go for our last appointment with him tomorrow.

This liquid diet has been the hardest thing, but I think I've finally gotten it figured out. I really don't like the Bariatric Advantage shakes, and they've gotten very hard to get down, but they are thicker and do keep me feeling fuller longer. At least after tomorrow, I'm over the half way point.

It really helps hearing good things about everyone else's experiences at Flowers. It calms some of the butterflies.

Hi fscavs! I meet with Dr Marker tomorrow afternoon too. Have you been for your pre anesthesia appointment yet? That's where I work, normally out of room 51. Stop in and say hi!

Hi guys! I had my surgery Thursday morning with Dr. Robbins - love him! The only real pain I've had is at the drain site, and I've managed to make it on one to two doses of pain meds each day. I try to walk every 2-3 hours. The only problems I am having is getting all my Water in & the nausea. The nausea is horrible, but I'll take it over the pain! I got on the scales this morning & am down 50 pounds from my highest weight. Something to really Celebrate amidst the bouts of nausea. Flowers nurses were top notch & incredible throughout!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
