Hi I'm about to have gastric bypass surgery in 3 weeks.....I really wanted gastric sleeve but was told by surgeon he would not do that on me because of past ulcer....so with him my only option is gastric bypass....as the date of my surgery approaches.... I find myself finding reasons not to have surgery....it all comes down to plain fear...I've worked so hard to get to this point to get surgery covered....I've spent years with my weight going up and down and now with my my back issues...getting the weight off is so important for my quality of life...is there someone out there that has had surgery and can give me advice...please...any feed back would be appericiated...Thanks in advance????????????

I had RNY gastric bypass surgery over 3 years ago. Overall I lost almost 120 pounds total (20 pounds pre-op and 100 pounds post-op) I now fall in the normal BMI category. Many of my health conditions (high blood pressure, diabetes, sleep apnea, severe acid reflux) have gone into remission and stayed there. I consider the surgery to be one of the best decisions that I ever made.

@@James Marusek Hi how long did you have diabetes? That's one of the main reasons I'm doing the RnY over the sleeve is to get my diabetes into remission, I've had it for 12 1/2 years. I also have sleep apnea, high blood pressure, arthritis, and surprise, depression ("sarcastically" I wonder why?)!

I was taking medicine for Type 2 diabetes for around 10 years prior to surgery. My blood sugar levels using 2 types of medicine still did not keep my blood sugar levels under control, and my doctor requested that I start taking insulin shots but I declined. By the time I left the hospital 2 days after surgery, I was off all my diabetes medicines and I haven't taken any since. I periodically test my blood sugar levels to verify, my blood sugar levels remain low. I am 3 years post-op RNY.

I know how you are feeling. Dr told me the same thing. My date is the 26th. I'm on the liver shrinking diet now. I'm looking forward to being healthier and off all meds for diabetics. I'm tired of sticking myself 7-8 times a day. I want to see my cheek bones and my waist lol. I'm ready for my tankini next year, lol. We will be healthier and stronger, although I am a little hungry right now. I can only have liquids. #lookingtothefutureforahealthierme

@@James Marusek @Mauimamma I had my RnY last Wednesday and I feel great, my diabetes seems to be in remission. I had been taking Metformin and really high doses of insulin called u5oo ( 5 times stronger then reg insulin) twice a day, made me gain so much weight! Since my surgery I have been loosing 2-3 lbs a day and I have so much energy. No problems with my new pouch, I can sleep on my back. My high blood pressure, arthritis, heartburn and depression seem to be gone too, I am hopeful that with another 40 lbs I will be able to stop using my sleep apnea CPAP machine, I can hardly wait!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
