I was looking at your ticker, you've lost 96 lbs and have 22 to go. I've lost 22 and have 90 to go. Ha!

I absolutely respect your choice. I am sorry to see a vet go. You guys have been such a valuable resource for me over the past nine months. I estimate I have about 25 or so pounds left to lose, so I am fast approaching maintenance. I'm going to need you vets more than ever when I get there. You guys are amazing and such an inspiration to me. The majority of my attention on this site goes to reading the vets forum. I really look forward to being able to post there in three months. One year is how a vet is defined, right?

I knew it! Bacon is evil.

No, seriously.. Why is everyone getting so upset over bacon?? You can advice someone but you can't make them do things that they want to. If she ate the bacon, you advised her not to. Whether she takes that advice and benefits from it or chooses to ignore it and suffer, it's her choice.

Neither of you should take things personally. You are not obliged to change anyone's lifestyle.

English is my 6th language so forgive me if my sentences don't make any sense at times!

Sometimes you grow out of things and move on to new adventures. It's natural. Most go without fanfare, others need to do the goodbye and this is why post.

Don't let comments on the internet get to you. Being called a bully by someone you will never meet is worthless.

Now I need some bacon.

Oh did anyone else have a major stall at 3 weeks?

I kid. I kid. Lol

I haven't had surgery yet . I come here to read posts and get info...especially from the vets. I plan on following my teams advice 110%! I don't understand why one wouldn't! After all we ended up having surgery because our way wasn't working. So why would ppl think their way would work after surgery. I thank all the vets for their wisdom and guidance!

I plan on following my teams advice 110%! I don't understand why one wouldn't!

Because there are so many different plans out there. Some information even seem to contradict each other. It starts with pre-op diet, continues with post-op diet and the follow-up intervals and the long-term diet one is supposed to follow etc.

It's natural people start asking themselves: "Is my team right? Is your team right? Or the team of another patient? In the end what is really the best strategy?"

For me it would be surprising if there wouldn't be questions about all of it. Patients want the best strategy out there for themselves (absolutely normal) but in the end you don't know if your surgical team offers the best strategy that is available.

---

ETA: no, I'm not talking about that there might be a team out there that encourages bacon, steak and pizza one week post-op. ;-)

In less than a month that I've been a member of this group, I have already noticed some major differences in the requirements Frein surgical teams. For example, my surgeon does not require a pre-op diet at all. But there is another surgeon in his office that does. There are some surgeons that require a post-op Atkins diet for life while others will allow the patient to eventually incorporate carbs. I had to meet a NUT last week that wasn't my regular NUT, due to a scheduling issue and I noticed that both NUTs, even though they are from the same office/team, they both had very different ideas and expectations. My NUT pushed Protein powders and bars. The other NUT was against those and only wanted patients to get Protein from food sources.

@allsmilez: This!

And now how to decide what's best for you? It all comes down to trial and error in the end (within sensible boundaries).

I am pre op... I read some of the posts on here and think to myself are they kidding? I think people do little to no research then dive right in and low and behold they screw up... I have been researching and learning about others experiences for well over twelve months so I am fully prepared for what I can expect, in fact my surgeon was surprised that I asked about dumping and Vitamins, meal plans for the future and the best ways to get Protein in during the early days etc.. He said wow most people have no idea and just want a surgery date... That drives me insane!!

I can totally understand that vets must feel like they are repeating them selves every day - no h can't and shouldn't eat bacon, no u can't and shouldn't be eating bread on day three... Sigh....

Yes, I also did two years of planning and research. All of my meal plans, Protein, Vitamins etc are of no use as my body can't tolerate any of it right now. All my pre op planning meant nothing. I spend a fortune on taxis everywhere, needs while in hospital, trying all different foods, liquids etc and having to have everything delivered. I have been housebound now since May. Research and planning doesn't always mean success.

Ok let's drama down a notch ....or two.

Good suggestion.

I remember a thread in which vets complained about newbies being "so overly sensitive". Some vets seem to be quite sensitive and easily offended, too, as I have noticed during the last weeks.

Sensitive? Nope.

Gun shy? Tired of getting called names or accused of being bullies? Yes.

Fed up with people coddling others in ways that could be seriously detrimental to their health and their weight loss? Absolutely.

Of course, I am only speaking for me.

And I'll add it's not only the Vets who are sick of the people crying "bully" or only wanting to be coddled - I'm pre-op and it's pissing me off. I'm not sensitive - I'm annoyed! It's more than just a weight loss/success concern that we have when someone goes so far off plan - it's a health concern - you can cause significant and life threatening complications! Would you coddle an alcoholic who had a drink 5 days post-op a liver transplant because they were "thirsty"???!!!! I am pre-op and have already cut back on my time on this forum. If the vets don't feel comfortable speaking up - why the hell would I even bother to stick around at all.

When people get their knickers in a twist I always think "hey, it's the Internet folks, what did you expect!" It can wear you down though, so take a little BP vacay for a couple weeks and come back when well rested. It's all good.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
