Hi all!

I am scheduled to have my DS on July 20th. I haven't even started my preop diet yet but looking forward to starting my new life.

I must admit that I am a bit nervous as to the pain after surgery. I had a hysterectomy last year so I know a little bit of what to expect in terms of anesthesia and the like. This will be the first time I've ever had to stay at a hospital for more than a day.

What was your guys' experiences? Nausea? Pain levels?

Well, I had the RNY, not the DS, so I can't say completely what your experience might be like. But I can say that the RNY was the first surgery I ever had in my entire life, and I was 54 at the time.

I too was apprehensive about what the recovery was going to be like. I'm happy to report that I had a near text book perfect result. No complications, and very little pain. I had made arrangements to stay with a family member the first week, as I was concerned that I wouldn't be up to navigating the stairs in my home. But I felt so good I ended up staying only one night and then drove myself home the next day. I felt so good I kind of wondered if they had actually performed the surgery at all!

The only issue I really had was the exhaustion, which lasted for about six weeks. Other that that, it was so much better that I had anticipated. I hope you have the same outcome.

Good luck!

I am 3 years post-op RNY gastric bypass surgery. I found the pain levels to be very low compared with pass surgeries. But I may be an exception since I have a high tolerance for pain. I choose to have no pain medicine after I exited the recovery room. I didn't really need it. My pain level never reached a 2 on a scale of 1 to 10.

But if you are worried about pain, then walk at least 30 minutes per day religiously. And walk, walk, walk after the surgery while you are in the hospital. It really minimizes the pain.

Me too I had the DS very little pain. Only nausea from pain med so I asked them to stop them never had to take anymore. I had a full prescription at home never needed them. I too was left wondering if anything was actual done. I did see my new stomach on an X-ray after which was cool. You will gear up for a 10 on the pain meter and most likely experience a 2

Mine is also scheduled for July 20th at Monmouth medical. Luckily my Dr only requires a strict pre op diet if a fatty liver is present and it does not seem like I have one. Where are you getting your surgery done?

I am getting mine done at ORMC in Orlando with Dr Jawad. I have to do the pre-op diet no matter what. I've been gearing up for that as I start this coming Wednesday.

Hello. I had a IV pump so I could give myself pain meds. The pain wasn't great, but not nearly as bad as orthopedic procedures I've had.

Are you having the full DS or the SADI/LoopDS/SIPS. You might want to double-check.

I'm having the full DS. It's sounding like I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill. Thanks everyone!

Thought I had full DS turns out I had SADI with 250cc common Chanel. My doctor says he does all of them 250cc to cut down on malabsorption and diarrhea problems. I am much happier knowing I have a longer Chanel and only one cut inside

Well, I just had my surgery yesterday and everything is so far so good. The walking has been helping. But this is not nearly as much pain as I've experienced before. No nausea even. Just pain from the incisions. Thanks for the advice guys!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
