Toddler Yoga Kicked My Butt

Recommended Posts

Ha! It's true. I'm almost 6 weeks post op and have been considering trying a yoga class. Seems like a nice low impact way to ease into a fitness routine. Well, I found a toddler yoga dvd at a garage sale and did it at home tonight with my 5 year old. The squatting poses hurt my knees, my top heavy body kept tipping over in balance poses, and twisty stretchy poses pulled on my incisions and hurt.

I think I'll practice this a bit more at home before attempting in a public place...

it's something isn't it? I did yoga a good 2 years before I attempted any poses in public! I've not taken a class but there is a park that I like to go to where there is an observation deck overlooking the biggest waterfall in the state. if I can manage a few times a year to go there on a week day I usually have that deck all to myself, and it is a lovely place to do some yoga.

I found my wii to be very helpful as the figure of me on the TV has a line that tells me if my posture is correct. that was a game changer. and I love the Peggy Cappy videos but now I just have a routine of poses that work for me.

keep at it! it's so good for your core and hips.

I think a waterfall sounds like a wonderful place for yoga! We don't have many around here (it's dry in Colorado), but I do have a Wii fit. It's been collecting dust for a couple of years, but maybe it's time to clean it off and give it a try.

I'm in a yoga class with about 20 women. It's mostly women 50 years old and older. It's not competitive. It focuses equally on poses and forms, breathing, body acceptance, and calming down. So far as I can tell, there is zero negative energy in that room.

I feel incredibly lucky to have a resource like this. So lucky!

Toddler Yoga cracked me up! There are many many different forms of yoga practiced in public/group settings.

Restorative yoga is gentle and slow.

I think it's awesome that you're listening to your body and finding your body's way.

I love love love yoga and have practiced it for decades . For a fatty, I was super flexible. As I lost weight rapidly, I lost my center of balance and am just now regaining it.

I went from a flexible, balanced fat person, to a flexible, wobbly, not fat person. It's kind of funny, actually.

Now that's the kind of yoga class I need to find! Fortunately my gym offers all levels. There's even a chair yoga class for those with limited mobility.

This sounds like me. I've always been flexible and can even still do the splits. I'm currently fat, flexible, and wobbly.

Boy, oh boy, can I relate to this, @@LipstickLady .

Two years post-op and nearly a year at my lowest weight my body is still looking for its new center of gravity.

Pre-op, it was definitely in my a**.

My big tatas balanced my fat (bedazzled) @ss. Now neither are particularly big, just kinda floppy all around.

I LOVE that you did yoga with your 5 year old! I always think the idea of yoga sounds fun but the few times I have attempted it (at home), I have thought better of going out in public doing it! ????

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
