Nail polish/Acrylic nails

Recommended Posts

Surgery is in 3 days and paperwork says to remove all nail polish. I just got a new set and pedicure less than 2 weeks ago . I can and will take off my toenail polish but do I have to get my nails taken off?

Absolutely! They can determine your oxygen level by looking at your nail beds. If you have polish on they can't tell. The anesthetist will be looking closely. Best of luck!! Mines in 10 days! Eek

Thank you! Just "googled" and found quite a few kept theirs on as well. I'll take polish off but hate to go sit and soak to take them off.

Do not go with the advice you get on here. You need to contact your surgical team directly since every anesthesiologist has different preferences. I absolutely could not keep my acrylics on for my VSG but I could for my gall bladder removal (different surgeon/anesthesiologist/hospital)

What @@Kindle said.

Is freaking out over a bloody manicure a new way to distract one's self from significant matters? If so, apply for a patent. You may be on to something lucrative.

Dude is not a petty question. Keeping your nails up is a costly investment, a lot of us spend $1000-2000 a year on it. Having your gel polish or your full set off can cause all your nails to break off and you have to start over. Being pretty is serious business.

Just check with them. I took my gel polish off the night before, I had surgery on a Wednesday and when I got home Thursday night I put my gel polish back on (I have a light at home), and I went on that Friday and got a pedicure. If you have to soak them off, you might be able to have them right back on a couple days after surgery if you are recovering well.

Ahhhhh!!! Bloody hell, just do as you're told by your surgical team. Weigh up the cost of the surgery against a set of nails and work things out that way. Or of course, you could work out what is most important to you for a couple of days-health or hand vanity. Up to you but I know what I did!

Remember.. like they said on the other page.. Acrylics are super expensive.. a new set can cost upwards of 40-60 dollars depending on where you live... big picture it's worth it to take it off for surgery.. small picture YES I can see why OP is freaking out about it.

In my case they said to remove polish but when they found out I just had French tip they told me I could keep it on because they could easily see my nail beds to monitor me during surgery. I was using Jamberry rather than acrylic but it would likely work similarly.

On a serious note. .. check with your operating team... we weren't allowed to have polish or fake nails.

I'm getting a message in this topic that artificial nails and gel polish cause brain damage. In accurate, there's no reason not to go to the OR all festooned.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
