What do you buy at Costco?

Recommended Posts

Rumor has costco is the test store for Premier Protein Shake's new flavor: caramel. Has anyone seen it there?

I have bought more than one case. It is great. I buy chocolate, vanilla and Caramel Premier in addition to the other foods -- fruits, veggies, meats, TP, paper towel. Their Vita Rain -- costco brand Vitamin Water 0 - is great and $6 less a case of 24 than Vitamin Water. I also use their Multivitamin -- I have done so for years.

I got a box of pesto tilapia in the frozen fish area, it was a bag of pre seasoned single iced fish that you can take out one at a time and nuke in the microwave. Tastes so fresh and isn't fishy! I also got some ahi tuna that is single wrapped and seared to perfection. You can take out one portion. And thaw it and eat it with some teriyaki sauce and wasabi. Nice no cook option. And again not fishy tasting.

@@Dub I know the sugar from fruit can mess with weight loss if you insulin resistant such as myself... Why would cheese not be consistent with your weight loss mode?... Sorry I'm pre op and trying to learn all I can.. Your post are good sources of info and very positive.

I can only speak in terms for what works........or doesn't work for me.

Others may have had different results.

cheese, while being an ultra-low carb, moderately high Protein food............is primarily composed of fat, thus calorie dense.

That make it's something I avoid. Nuts are in the same category. Both are too calorie dense for my current goals.

Down the road a piece......if and when I'm below goal and trying to maintain through increasing calories (as crazy as that concept seems to me now.....as an obese dude........may be valued low carb, higher Protein add ins to my diet).

For me......at this point in my battle against my weight.......chicken and fish are my two main sources of good Proteins. Admittedly, I use and abuse eggs for Breakfast Proteins about as often as I use Protein powder shakes (difference between work days and off days).

Positive is the only way to approach the way we find ourselves....................

Just a friendly suggestion..... i know that your diet is focused on weight loss, but you might want to add a little fat if you still have a gallbladder... fast weight loss with low carb AND low fat is a recipe to stop the gallbladder working efficiently ☺

I wouldn't want you to have to go through further surgery if it can be avoided by a tiny change.

Yes it is a good idea to avoid fruits high in sugar during the weight loss phase.... but berries in general are lower in sugars than some other fruits. ... so if you must have fruits... you have made the better choice.

I personally believe its important to get a balance of nutrients from food... fruits included.... berries in particular are very good in that way... you get sweetness, low sugar and a good deal of antioxidants, flavonoids and micro nutrients

@@Aussiegirl 81... You are correct about fruits... fruit on the low glycemic index such as apples and blueberries are fine... A balanced eating plan is the goal.

My new favorite there are frozen marinated chicken skewers I throw on the BBQ.

Also their solid white albacore tuna. For the price of that chunk light stuff at the grocery store.

Got some new ideas from this thread and headed there today to get stuff for DD's graduation party, gonna pick up a few of these ideas--the single portion ahi, the pollack burgers and that Vita Rain!

I just bought the chicken skewers today! I love that they are already cooked. How do they taste? I'm gonna be sad eating them without tzataki (sp) sauce tho :(

I think they are tasty, I usually take them off the stick and add them to salad... I'm pre op so I can do that lol... I thought the price was good for all you get... If you live near trader joe's they have grilled chicken strip which are also tasty, depending on where I'm doing errands depends on which one I get... Let me know if you like them

Why can't you make that sauce with Greek yogurt, I know I've seen recipes online for that.

I think I tried to find those chicken skewers that someone mentioned when I had previously done a "Costco" search but couldn't find them at my costco :(

I get my original Babybels, Morningstar original sausage patties (not real sausage), Premier Protein shakes, and canned tuna from costco. My boyfriend gets his own things from there. We don't really eat any of the same foods. The Babybels are the most important, though. I go through those the fastest :)

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
