Pre-op Diet...how hard is it?

Recommended Posts

It's my last monthly supervised visit, and my dietician put me on this meal plan so I can easily adjust to the 2 week Pre-op Diet. It's hard already so I can only imagine that Pre-op diet!! Is it as hard as it sounds?????

Yup. But it's worth it. You can do anything for two weeks if it means adding a decade to your life, can't you? Add the idea that it will improve the quality of your next few decades? In the grand scheme of things, two weeks is a flash in the pan.

Take it a day at a time. If that's too hard, take it an hour at a time. If that's too hard, take it minute by minute. sleep a lot, walk a lot, drink a lot (water), paint your nails so they are perpetually wet, find something to do with your hands (knit?), chew gum, and look through tons of fashion magazines so you know what you are up against when you hit goal.

It's SO worth it. Two weeks of misery for a lifetime of awesome. Seriously.

I am finishing up day 10 of my 15 day pre-op diet. I have been allowed green veggies and one serving of 4 ounces of lean meat a day. I think that is pretty good. I have to have a clear liquid diet the day before my surgery (this Friday!). It has been difficult at times and easy some days as well. Day 1 and day 4 were the worst for me so far. I think I went through carb withdrawal on day 4. Today I attended a family reunion--it wasn't as bad as I had imagined. I didn't drink a shake while I was there--so I was really hungry by the time we left. I am getting nervous about this Friday. It is just pushing through and learning. Planning is key too. Be sure to have an approved item so you aren't tempted to break the rules. Good luck!!

I'm on day 13 - the first three days were the most difficult , but i did done good things before I started pre- op: I gave up my favorite Diet Coke and weened off all caffeine and carbonated beverages; started drinking lots of Water and reduced sugar

Something I should have done : I did not try out various shakes ... I bought a big bag of vanilla Bariatric Advantage and some individual strawberry - this brand is too sweet ... Because I'm diabetic , my dr allowed for milk and one fruit ... So I have been blending 1/2 strawberries and it has worked .... But I realized post op I cannot add fruit and blending ( at least initially) my cause additional gas .... So I have tried the shakes plain ( almost intolerable .... But it is an important 'almost')

It's not bad.

You space out your shakes to minimize hunger.

Chew lots of gum.

Drink lots of Water.

Forget about food for a while and enjoy the weight loss that you'll see from doing the pre-op diet correctly. Know that you are doing your part to ensure a safe surgery.

Get through it and on with the show.

Good times are most certainly ahead.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
