3 more days. . . .

Recommended Posts

Only three more days to tolerate the pain and complication this (#)% lapband has caused for the last three years. The removal and revision to RNY is on 06/01/16 and I CAN HARDLY WAIT!!!

I thank everyone who posts on this forum for providing the insights, traumas, and laughter that has helped me through the last stages of this process. Though I lurk more than I write, I have gotten so much great information from all of you, information I needed to make this a smoother transition. The next step will be tough, and I really hate pain, but reading the stories you've shared gives me comfort and hope.

See you on the other side!

Rosie

Best of luck to you - I had mine done May 9th and am doing fine! No more pain or discomfort - just make sure you follow the dietary rules and you should not have any problems!

Congratulations on your surgery date and making the decision to change your life (again). I just had my surgery 2 weeks ago... For me it has been tough but I am taking it one day at a time.

I am already down 20 lbs since surgery which is a miracle of its own and starting to feel better :)

Home again and (mostly) better. The first night was pretty rough and my Dr didn't leave orders for anything but morphine, which I did not want to take. Came home to my hydro and oxycodone and MUCH better. Seven incisions and very painful where the band was removed. Photos the Dr gave us show flesh growing around port tube, port lesioned to inside ab wall, and lesions around band at stomach. So grateful it is GONE! No trouble since coming home, though I can see getting a regular sleep pattern back going to take a few days. That is NOT a concern I care much about!

I have my band to gastric surgery 6/2/16 good luck!!

Kewadiak, how are you doing?

The first night was the worst for me, but the next day was better. Remember to sip ice chips or Water - 1 oz every 15 minutes or so. That should help with dehydration.

Sorry you're having some trouble.

What pain meds did they release you with?

Oxycodone every four hours as needed for 7 days. I didn't use any of the morphine they prescribed in the hospital, because morphine makes me nauseous. The first night was really, really bad - crying bad. Nothing so bad since. What I am struggling with is getting my blood pressure up. I normally have HBP, for which I take meds. The first two nights without my meds my pressure was very high. Once it was 188/110. I was able to take my meds beginning Thursday night (about 36 hours post-surgery), and again Friday morning. I haven't taken any since then and it's coming in at 95/59. A little worried about that but no enough to call the dr yet.

Feeling any better today?

I had band to GB revision 2 years ago. Best thing I ever did. So much discomfort with the band absolutely none with GB after initial surgery. Keep us posted.

I FEEL LIKE A MILLION BUCKS!!!

I'm glad you're feeling better, too. Still some swelling in the abdomen so I have not fully realized the feeling of absence I am anticipating with the band gone but there's no more spasms and pain in that area. I am grateful and happy!

My doc wants 60 grams of protein a day - a difficult task with so little to eat - but I have found a few things that help get me almost there. I found a packaged Protein Drink with 30 g protein that is actually pretty good, Premier Protein makes it and it's available pretty much everywhere. I also nurse an Atkins Lift Protein Drink, which is pretty good for hydration as well as protein intake, with 20 g protein. I make my own yogurt so I know I'm not getting all the sugar and other crap in the processed, ready-to-eat brands, and mix in a little stevia and vanilla, sometimes cinnamon, too, for a nice little treat. I have this new love of cottage cheese, which I didn't think I even liked before, and 2-3 tbsp fills me up completely. I try to vary what I eat but I have tried to create a regular eating time, too. Eating 3-5 a day is a new habit I have to establish.

I've been given permission to try a few things. A good deli ham and cheese sliced really thin, rolled, is one. I requested very thinly sliced so my ham is 4pc=2oz and cheese is 3pc=.75oz. I ended up eating just 1 1/2 rolls and I was full.

I was also able to add a scrambled egg but that really didn't sit well at all. Very uncomfortable feeling after eating it so I won't be doing that again soon! I understand some foods are not going to be the same as pre-surgery, with the new anatomy rejecting some things that didn't give me any problems before. I'm good with that. I'll try eggs again in the future, maybe.

I STILL have not needed my blood pressure medicine, with my numbers well below the 120/80 that is 'standard.' I take it several times a day to track and am just astounded that, so far, it seems to have corrected itself. When I ate the ham I thought it would skyrocket (I'm highly salt-intolerant), but it didn't inch up at all. I also track my food intake and exercise (I'm walking in the gym 3-4 times/week) on another site (am I allowed to provide website info that's not BP?).

The byproduct of all this is I'm down 17 lbs since surgery date! I couldn't be happier and I feel physically well.

Keep me posted on how you're doing and share success tips.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
