Does anyone dance for exercise?

Recommended Posts

I dance a bit for fun but I thought it'd be really cool to dance for exercise! I listen to a variety of music like jpop, kpop, jrock, hip hop etc so there's so much I can dance to. I'm just worried about my stomach.

I'm worried that something might come loose or I might damage something.

I can't imagine it would be any problem once you are cleared by your doc for exercise.

I run marathons and it hasn't shaken anything loose, nor has any of the yoga I've done!

Dancing is good for aerobics. However, keep in mind that you can't depend on it for your only form of exercise.

How far out are you? I was instructed to limit my exercise to walking for the first 8 weeks. And honestly I could not really attempt to lift weights or anything until about 12 weeks (even though I was "cleared" to do what I was comfortable with at the end of 8 weeks).

I love belly dancing, I have surgery in July and am wondering when I'll be able to pick that back up! I'll be asking the surgeon for sure.

Ah, that's good to know! I hate to sound silly but I just really had to ask.

I'm 7 1/2 months out, I was told to start walking right away by my surgeon, I was even up and walking in the hallway the following day after surgery. I've been walking all this time but I really wanted to try something to add to it.

You might enjoy Zumba. It's not only dance, it involves moves that work every muscle group and loads of fun! If you are 7 1/2 months out you should have no worries unless your surgeon has told you otherwise.

If something "comes loose", you need to seek legal counsel. That shouldn't happen under any circumstances.

Why not?

I started back with Martial Arts at 3 weeks. I was, of course, not allowed to spar and I was told to move at my own pace. I started back at Zumba at the same time.

I was allowed to start swimming at 6 weeks -- once the incisions were healed.

No weights for 8 weeks.

Your doctor was very conservative. :D

Why do you say that? Curious. Are you meaning she needs to add strength training as well or are you suggesting dance isn't enough in the aerobic department?

Once you are cleared by your surgeon and you feel up to it, dance is a great exercise. ANYTHING you do to MOVE is a good thing. You could dance on your own and even join a class. Anything you enjoy doing is going to make it easier to do.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
