I had VSG surgery on 12th November 2013 at Nuffield hospital, Brentwood. Mr Koak carried out my op with a size 28 bougie.

I had the greatest care and no pain or nausea at all. My highest weight was 275 and I'm now 179. I know I could have lost more during the honeymoon period, but I stupidly snacked and boozed. I'm back on track now and although it's harder to lose the weight, it is very possible. I'd like to lose a further 20 pounds. I took out a bank loan for the surgery as the NHS would have paid for a bypass, but I didn't fancy that and I wanted the surgery quickly. This is the best thing I've ever done for myself.post-235792-14631422994372_thumb.jpg post-235792-14631424131473_thumb.jpg

Nice to see another UK sleever on the fourm. Well done on your weight loss. It's nice if people who have been sleeved for a while post, so that newbies can see how successful it is in the long term.

I was sleeved in August 2015 and knew I would lose weight, but the whole thing has been totally life changing. At my first hospital appointment I weighed 260lbs. I did a pre-op diet and had my op with Spire in Norfolk. I must admit I was quite sick for the first couple of days and struggled to drink much, but after that it has been onwards and upwards all the way.

I'm now down to about 160lb (I only weigh oncea month) and have almost completed the C25K, so can now run for 25 mins. Nothing short of a miracle!

There is a UK part of the Gastric Sleeve forum which has been really good, although I don't get around to posting much! Lovely people and lots of helpful suggestions.

Keep up the good work!

Hi Soodoo,

Wow, you've done really well! I must confess I weigh myself far too often but I just can't help it.

I would love to be able to properly exercise, but the MS stops me. Thanks for letting me know about the UK part. I'll take a look.

Hi jessjames,

There are quite a few forums etc you can join. Bariatricgal, WLSsurgery etc. Have a look on Google.

Good luck with your surgery! Are you doing any pre-op diet? I did 2 weeks of 3 Slimfast shakes per day and Water. I was so focused I found it relatively easy. I must admit tho I mourned the loss of some foods and I tried to ensure I had all my favourites in the month before the pre-op diet.

Thanks for replying lovely,

I have to do a 5-7 day low fat 1,000 calorie pre op diet, so I think I'm pretty lucky there. 2 weeks of just 3 slim fast shakes per day? You're a rock star.

I'll need to look into if the fast shakes are low in fat, I doubt it somehow..

The shakes are quite low in fat - I lost over a stone on the pre-op diet, and my liver was, apparently, in tip top condition (according to my surgeon).

I'll be thinking of you on the 26th and hopefully you'll recover really well.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
