May 18th- Binging and Guilt!

Recommended Posts

Having my surgery on the 18th of May... FREAKING OUT!!!!! food is my coping mechanism, so... Hello binging time! I just keep asking myself how I ever let it get this bad. Why did I let myself go? How did I get to this point? I'm a 20yr old needing bariatric surgery, who was about a 100 pounds lighter 2yrs ago. And I'm also having intense guilt... I did this to myself. Why am I taking the 'easy' way out? I know the weight gain was a consequence of the depression I went through, and still dealing with... And it's not entirely my fault, but gosh the guilt is almost crippling.

Anyway. Anyone having theirs around that time too? Wanna be buddies ?

Honey, this is NOT the easy way out. I am 6 wks post op and weighed 243 before surgery. I am a retired CPT from the Army and never dreamed that I would end up this way. I use to weigh 117 lbs for years. I asked myself how this happened too but it really doesn't matter. The important thing is that you are doing something about it. I don't know if age gives you any special resolve, as I am almost 57 yrs old, but I have lost 32 lbs in 6 weeks and I LOVED food. You will make it regardless. You will not have a choice. You will see things much differently after your surgery has come and gone. But, one word of advice. Whether your doctor told you to or not, start being on a liquid diet now if your surgery is the 18th. I ate right up until the night before my surgery and the incision, one of five, that he took the stomach out of he aslo had to clean out because my stomach was full of food. I ended up getting an infection and still have an open incision getting wound care every day. It is not worth it!!! Take this simple word of advice. Start that liquid diet now!

I can promise you this is not the "easy" way out. But it does get easier. There are LOTS of reasons that we develop the habits that we do. It's probably safe to say that most of us have used food as a way to deal with just about every emotion. You're happy...throw a party..with food, you're sad...eat your way happy, you're angry...take it out on food.

Food has always been the "global remedy" for emotions and issues in our lives and we've all been there. This surgery doesn't magically fix everything for you, but it does give you the tools necessary to be successful and make better food choices moving forward.

Good luck! We're all cheering for you! :D

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
