Im anxious and so many questions

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm very new. I am so many emotions. I'm tired of being morbidly obese. I have a meeting tomorrow with the surgeon and dietician at Kaiser Fremont, Ca. I don't want to sound like a dummy but I am the type of person that needs to be shown how and what to eat, how to measure, how to read labels. I guess if I did all that in the beginning I would not be in this situation. I just don't want to fail and I need to make this change for me! Is there anyone here just starting their journey?

I'm only a month in - and your Nutritionist should teach you all of those things. You're not being a dummy - I need to learn all of those things too. That's what they are there for. Write down questions and don't hesitate to ask at your visits. Also - take notes as it gets confusing as to what you were told by your Team with what you read online or what others have said. Every program appears to be different so you need to understand your Program.

Ask your Nutritionist questions and them repeat the answer as many times and in different ways as you need to understand it.

Honestly, I think most of us (even those of us who thought we knew) needed to be taught or re-taught how to do a lot of what's needed to be successful long term.

Once you meet your surgeon and nutritionist (NUT), be sure to ask them these questions and make sure that they will be available to answer these questions as they come up on your journey, before AND after surgery. My team has been fantastic and I've been able to continue to email my NUT with super-fast responses even after surgery. My team has ongoing classes beyond surgery to keep you informed of healthy food choices and eating habits, as well as fitness help.

It's been a great experience so far for me, mainly because of how easy the people on my team have been so eager to help when it's needed. I hope you find the same access and helpfulness! Don't ever think a question is stupid!

Best of luck!

Hi there,

Yes I just started with Kaiser Fremont at the end of April. They scheduled my psych appointment yesterday (I reached the weight loss goal the surgeon set for me). So far my experience with the Kaiser Fremont has been very pleasant. I am still nervous about the surgery though and I didnt expect the process to be moving along as fast as it is.

Hi Audaciousmarie,

Are you going to Fremont Kaiser? I went to my appointment with the surgeon and nutritionist. LOVED the surgeon but I was scheduled late in the day so I felt rushed by the nutritionist and was not able to really get al my questions. She was nice just very high strung. LOL What surgery are you getting? When is your surgery date? That is so awesome!

Hi Michea!

Yes I am going through Kaiser Fremont. Aww I'm sorry you felt rushed by the nutritionist. Next Friday there is the support group at Kaiser Fremont (I hear its a really great group and there is a lot of vital information provided at the meeting). At this point I am getting the sleeve (even though everyday I question whether I should get the bypass). I don't have a surgey date yet but I'm pretty much on the last steps of the process before getting a date. I just need to complete the psych appointment (May 17th) and an EKG. My surgeon is Dr. Hahn. Who is your surgeon? What surgery are you thinking of getting?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
