Heartburn... ouch!

Recommended Posts

Hey all...

I am 10 days post op... have had a wonderful recovery... no complications.. i am able to meet my Fluid and Protein requirements..

However, i have developed the worst heartburn ever!! I feel like im a fire breathing dragon!!

I am on a PPI once a day... and am taking gaviscon... it helps for like 10 minutes.. but then it comes back...

I am not overeating and can't seem to figure out a pattern.

Did anyone have bad heartburn this early out?? Did it improve with time?

Any advice, remedies would be great.

I see my surgeon in a few days... but this is ruining my day

What PPI are you on? I was on omeprazole 2x per day after surgery. It's a double dose of what the OTC instructions call for, but it's a pretty standard dose for the prescription version.

@

I was on rabeprazole (Pariet) initially. Had really scary early morning reflux about 2 weeks post op.

I changed to taking it at night. Didn't help too much.

Reflux was getting worse, so on some days I was taking Pariet both in the morning and evening.

I even took Somac few times.

I was advised to try Nexium instead. I saw my surgeon, he gave me Nexium 40mg script, and 7 days later I am good again, not suffering anymore.

At this stage ( 8 weeks post op), Nexium is working for me.

I noticed that with the change to more solid foods, my reflux was getting worse (weeks 6-7 post op)

Good luck!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
