Coffee or no in the beginning ? Surgeon and nutritionist disagree

Recommended Posts

So I'm having my 7 year old lapband revised to rny in 4 days ( excited, scared to death, determined ) and I was in my nutrition meeting and she said never ever drink caffeine again, the next day was my final appt with my surgeon and he said that I can have my coffee right after surgery and use Protein Powder in to replace my Creamer.

They also disagree on the number of meals, one says 3 healthy meals of Protein and the other says add 2 tiny protein Snacks in between meals .

Please help clear the confusion . I want to heal perfectly and do my part to make that happen

I think what you are going to find is that you will get a lot of different opinions. It is certainly confusing when even your surgeon and NUT disagree. I think most drink coffee. If you could drink Decaf coffee, that is probably even better. I think eventually we do our best to follow instructions and then just eventually end up doing what works for us individually. I think the reasons against caffeine are that it is a diuretic and that it can cause stomach issues (like reflux). For what it's worth, my NUT says no more than 16 oz of caffeine a day.

I'm 10 days post-op, had a coffee today with no issues at all. My surgeon said that he has had very few patients not tolerate moderate amounts of coffee so I was free to drink it.

I have had coffee since day 1. I use unsweetened vanilla almond milk.

Its not the coffee or tea the Drs dont want you to have its the caffeine. It is a diuretic. Your first month is all about sipping on Water and Protein. Caffeine could dehydrate you in the early stages of surgery hope this helps and no its not forever

My NUT and surgeon both said coffee is fine started coffee day 3 once I got home I have one every morning it's my one thing I love it's like a treat.

I assumed after reading this forum

pre Opp coffee was over for me then the day of surgery I asked my surgeon

boy was I relieved. I was literally placing my Nespresso order waiting for the nurses to come get me for my Opp.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
