How long did you sleep on your back?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys!

I was sleeved on 4/20. I've slept on my back ever since. This morning I woke up with lower back pain. I'm so tired of sleeping this way. I've tried to sleep on my left side, but it still hurts (that damn right side stitch). Just hoping for a light at the end of the tunnel. I miss my side-sleeping. (PS: I've tried propping pillows under my knees when I'm on my back, and that helps, but nothing is as comfy as side sleeping).

I think I did like after a little less than two weeks but it was actually by mistake. I was scared to sleep on my stomach so I was still sleeping on my back but when I woke up I was on my stomach lol. I was fine and didn't have any pain.

only in the hospital, I am a committed side sleeper, even if I start out on my back I end up on my side. it was only uncomfortable when I was changing positions.

Yeah changing positions is the worst, but even when I'm laying in my side, it feels like it's pulling on my right big stitch. Grrrr!

I sleep on my side. In the hospital I was forced to sleep on my back but as soon as I got home I returned to sleep on my side. No pain for me.

I just laid on my left side with a pillow sort of supporting my tummy.

in any case this should completely pass in a couple of weeks.

I was a side sleeper before surgery and I went right back to side sleeping. I used an abdominal binder for a week or so when I slept.

I slept on my stomach on the 4th night. I rolled over in my sleep by accident, and it was the best thing that ever happened. I hadn't been sleeping much before then, and that was my first stretch of real sleep, and I felt 10x better in the morning.

@@PayItForward Has a good idea with the binder, the binder will give you support.

Now that I have lost weight I can sleep comfortably in any position. It is a weird and welcome side effect.

I never had sleep apnea, but lately I have been noticing that when I wake up I am sleeping on my back and I never slept on my back before. I can't sleep on my side, my hip bones dig into the mattress.

I'm excited to be able to sleep more comfy when this damn stomach starts disappearing! I definitely carried my weight in my tummy.

I've been wearing a stomach binder. It makes me feel much more secure, but still feels weird on my side. I'll slowly start trying again.

Thanks everyone!!!

I am a stomach sleeper. I slept on my back while in the hospital and when I got home, I slept in a recliner for several days. About a week after surgery I moved to my bed, but elevated my upper body with pillows. I also put pillows under each arm to simulate laying in the recliner. About a week later I was back on my tummy.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
