First 3 days after surgery

Recommended Posts

I was wondering how you feel after surgery. I have never had any kind of surgery and I am terrified as to how I'm going to feel the first couple days after surgery. If you could share how you felt I would appreciate it.

4/5 - I'm 2wks post-op - everyone is different. (Note: I have a hight threshold for pain). Hence, I had a really good experience; all things considered. I was up & walking in the hospital that same day - released the next. Took very little pain meds. The most discomfort was the gas "pressure" in my shoulder areas. Very unpleasant! So it motivated me to get moving - to release . Not much abdominal pain. More sore, tender. At 1st I was nervous about ingesting anything but that faded. (Didn't get much in but tried). However I did get sick; only when given barium for the post-op/pre-release GI X-ray - nasty stuff! Now that was hard. Vomiting/retching 1 day post-op hurt but also soon faded. I was fearful as well but the anticipating thoughts were worse than actuality. BEST WISHES!!

To start off, I have a total of 7 laproscopic incisions, as I had a hiatal hernia repair as well.

I am currently 6 days post op and things are a lot better. The day of the surgery, I was in pain. Shoulders were killing me and I could not move without feeling pain around my cuts and inside. It was tough. That first night I will not forget. This is because I had a allergic reaction to one of the medications that caused me to have a terrible 45 min hot flash. Day 2 was a lot better. The nurses were able to get me up with the help of a stomach elastic band. I was drinking liquids at a very good rate. The first steps were hard. I felt like my wounds were still to fresh and I could feel them as I walked. But sooner than later, I was doing 1 lap and then 2 laps around the clinic. There was still pain, but you must accept it as something that WILL pass. I had moments, especially during the hot flash, where I felt as if I wanted to just run away from it all. My father stayed over night with me and helped me through. Have a loved one by your side if you can, or reach out to here. You sometimes need a voice to remind you things will move forward and this is only for a few ticks on the sweeping hands. The days that follow, you will only get better. Try your best to hit the protien and Water goals and update us. It is okay to feel nervous and scared, you will take a nap and wake up to a new life. Don't let the first unbalanced steps sway you from this!

Best,

Sanju

I had surgery 2 days ago. I was never in any pain, in was just uncomfortable. My stomach was very sore and I needed help sitting up. I never had nausea. Today, I'm still a little sore with some gas but I'm fine. I've done some light housework today and I am eating and drinking just fine. My advice would be to walk as much as you can. It really does make you feel better

I had mine done on the 18th. My surgery was a revision where they removed the band and did the sleeve at one time.

I would say the first night I was just achy and sore. Kind of like a mack truck hit me. The meds kept it pretty in check though.

Day 2 was pretty much similar but the pain was more annoyance type feeling. Like pulling on the wounds.

I came home on day 3 from the hospital and haven't taken pain meds since being there. I have some but never taken them yet.

As of today day 5 I would say I hardly have any pain at all.

I think most pain came from sudden movement and when I coughed.

Stay the course and don't worry so much because even in this short time I have had it I know it will be worth it. Down 12.2 lbs since 5 days ago.

Mine was on the 20th. I have a very very low threshold for pain so I was super scared going into it. The biggest pain I've had is gas. So I'm basically just uncomfortable. The pain isn't bad at all. Certainly not what I was dreading.

I had the sleeve done 4 days ago. The biggest pain for me was the gas in my shoulders and stomach. The pain lasted about 2 days. I went home from the hospital on day 3 and actually felt pretty good. I have had no pain at any of my surgical sights.

I am 54 and never had a surgery of any kind. I got the sleeve done on March 30. It was not too bad. After surgery when they woke me I felt awful. But the good news is it only lasted for about 20 minutes. they asked if I wanted to see my family when they woke me. I felt so bad I said no. Watching the clock on the wall and feeling better with every 5 minutes that passed. I was ready to see them 20 minutes later. I walked the whole floor that same night with no pain. Dressed myself easily next day and even left hours early because I was fine. Came home with meds but didn't need them but first 2 - 3 days.

Best wishes, it's not too bad. I have had hangovers and the flu that made me feel worse than this surgery...

Yuck yuck and double yuck. What a baby I'm being... It's just that... Jello used to be fun, ya know?? Pretty colors with blobs of canned fruit in them... Mashed into something with pineapple, pecans and whipped cream (I think it's a southern thing) or sucked out of a paper cup infused with vodka. Now it's just Jello. It's not jellos fault, it's mine. So I'm breaking up with it. I'm going to tell my little lime guys "Its not you, it's me... But it's mostly you". Black cherry is getting the boot too.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
