What can I take to help my bowels move? I haven't had a bowel movement in almost a week? I already know about benefiber and Miralax, but those don't seem to work and I'm hoping that someone may have an at home remedy that works for them?

Some people use a tea called Smooth Move that is supposed to work. I haven't tried it yet myself.

I have used milk of magnesium and that has worked for me.

i feel for you! I had extreme Constipation and had 1 BM in 3 weeks! I didnt hurt though - What finally did it was increasing my Water intake, MoM and Smooth Move tea. MoM will hit you suddenly so try and take the night before you will be able to be close to the bathroom the next day. Good luck!

Some of the recommendations from past links on this website made the following recommendations for constipation:

Apples with the skin
Smooth Move Herbal Tea
Prune juice (warmed)
Prunes (4 in the morning and 4 at night)
Magnesium citrate
Insoluble fibers (Garden of Life Raw Fiber or Renew Life Triple Fiber).
Haribo sugar free Gummy Bears
Aerobic Magnesium 07
Low Fat Bran Muffin (recipe). 80 calories each
1 cup flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon cinnamon
2 cups bran Cereal
1 ¼ cups milk
1 egg
½ tablespoon applesauce
optional: banana, berries, mini chocolate chips
Bake 400° F for 22 minutes
But if you haven't had a bowel movement in about a week, you may have to go with a more extreme method because you are bound up. These are Glycerin Suppositories. You have to insert these in your rectum. They are pretty fast acting. But you might need to do this a couple times in order to free yourself up.

If it's bothersome to you, then please call your MD's office. Don't wait until you end up with serious problems. I'm not saying that you do have anything serious. I'm just suggesting that you call and let them guide you .

I know I always have a RX for Ducolax/Colace for just such times since my sleeve surgery.

Feel better.

This is not a problem for me at 11 mos post surgery, but for the first five months, i learned that the 4 prunes in the am and 4 prunes in the pm did it for me, and when it was not as effective I did take a bit of metamucil.

Thanks for the tips everyone. The milk of magnesia actually worked. I just don't want to have to depend on that to have a BM.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
