My Journey is Just Beginning

Recommended Posts

This Friday, April 8, 2016, I have my first appointment with the nutritionist. I'm so nervous and worried about my weight. I'm borderline for the program because I am 5'2 weighting 225 pounds. My surgeon told me to not gain any weight but do not lose more than 6 pounds going beneath 219 pounds. I supplied them with records of my weight loss over the last 5 years.

At my heaviest, I weighed 243.3 pounds. At my lowest, prior to having my gallbladder removed, I weighed 187.2 pounds. I lost a lot of weight dealing with gallstones during my last pregnancy. But, as soon as I was able to keep food down again, I shot up to 225 pounds and I've been here steadily the last 18months.

This has been nerve wrecking. I've already started to remove foods and drinks from my diet and I got down to 220 pounds. Then I went out with friends for a birthday dinner and went back up to 227. Now I'm worried that since I'm two pounds over, I'll have to start my 6 month waiting period all over again.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm not at that point, but I've seen MANY people here post about being in a similar situation. My advice is to ask the dietitian what calorie target you should shoot for to maintain your weight and diligently track everything you eat so you stay within range.

You shouldn't have to restart. I gained two pounds with no repercussions. Good luck!

@alikelly -- I was told that my insurance is EXTREMELY strict and that I could gain 0 net lbs over the 3 month pre-op period. Every month I went in to the office with extreme fear. I ended up losing a big 1.5 lbs in 2 months because I was so afraid I would gain. Woo hoo...get this though--this month, ever since I started coming on this website, I have been extremely motivated! Maybe its because the surgery is coming, or maybe its the good weather we had over the last few weeks in NY area, but I have lost 7 lbs in last 2 weeks. Go figure. Last 2 weeks been eating things that are VSG friendly: Protein bars, Protein shakes, Water, various Protein Snacks. Seems to be working. I think if you are strict between now and Friday you could drop that 2 lbs. Especially because you couldn't have gained 7 lbs from one night out with friends. Probably a lot of Water weight. Good luck!

So, today is my second appointment. I am seeing my nutritionist today. And after all that worrying, I ended up losing five pounds since Monday. Now, I'm 222. Sigh. I can't win.

Don't go beneath 219 right? You are 3 lbs above that..still in range. Stay on target...post-289078-14602287156881_thumb.jpg

Just a question for anyone who is post op, how long should I stay off work? I've saved up 2 weeks of leave and I work in an office (government). Do you think this is a good amount of time to heal and get through the fatigue I've heard of.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
