Getting Non-Fat Greek Yogurt Down

Recommended Posts

My dietitian has recommended I eat non-fat Greek yogurt. I know this is a popular food among bariatric patients, but, for the life of me, I just can't get it down. Right now I'm trying Fage Total 0% plain yogurt with a little vanilla extract and cinnamon (her suggestion.) It's far too sour.

Is this just a particularly bad brand? Any suggestions for helping those of us who don't care for sour tolerate nonfat Greek yogurt?

Go try Kroger's Carbmaster line. It has artificial sweeteners, but otherwise it's a great way to get in Protein and low carb (around 4 grams of carbs and 9 grams protein). And they have a ton of flavors.

Or try flavored greek yogurt but you'll need to be much more aware of the carbs due to fruit/sugar add-ins.

Eating plain greek yogurt without sweetener is awful unless you use it as a sour cream substitute (which I do). I also use it to mix in with scramble eggs (add a table spoon to two eggs, beat with a fork to scramble then cook as normal. You'll get yummy creamy scrambled eggs and extra protein)

You can try adding some equal to the plain......I've not tried that yet but it may work.

I am not a yogurt fan at all and have tried the Greek. You do need to try different brands, they taste a different. I added plain fruit to it; blueberry is my favorite. Any berry really. That is the only way I can stand it.

There are so many different ones. I would recommend that you try one of this and one of that until you land upon the one for you.

There are many that have 100calories or even 80calories with about 12-15g of Protein.

The plain greek yogurts really need a pack of sweetener added to keep the sourness at bay. Then have fun added a few drops of one of the dozens of flavored extracts in the spice isle.

One of my favorite extracts is root beer added to vanilla--root beer float!

Time to play "Mad Scientist" and experiment, experiment, experiment.

Have fun with it.

Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt has 80 calories and 12g Protein. Fat free. The Key Lime is really good.

I couldn't even tolerate the smell of Greek yogurt let alone the taste. I have found that the yoplait light ones aren't too bad. Not as thick and gross as some of the others I have had. Like others have said you just have to play around till you find one you like.

I dislike the taste of Greek Yogurt as well but I have found that I like the Yopliat Whipped Greek Yogurt . Very light and a wide variety of flavors..

Light and fit has a good low carb Greek yogurt. My suggestion though is to stir vigorously before eating,it will make it not so think.

I wholeheartedly agree with the stirring recommendation - makes it smoother in my opinion. The non-fat greek yogurt can be a little "grainy" in texture in my opinion but I found that stirring it a LOT helped tremendously with that.

Also, if you aren't opposed to artificial sweetener, try flavoring it with sugar-free Torani syrups.< /p>

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
