Stopping/not stopping birth control pills prior

Recommended Posts

I am just wondering what everyone who was/is on birth control pills did. The first dr i went to said i had to stop taking them 4 wks prior up until 2 wks after surgery. I have since changed drs and they said i don't have to stop taking them at all before surgery. Now, i know there aren't any general guide lines so i am just wondering what everyone else was told.

I have the implant so it was impossible to stop it. My doctors just gave me extra blood thinner while in the hospital and made sure I stayed on top of my activity. If I hadn't had the implant my doctor would have taken me off it prior.

I have the Mirena (hormonal) IUD and my surgeon seemed pleased about it. He wants female patients to be on some kind of birth control for at least the first 18-24 months after surgery because it can take that long to become able to intake the necessary extra calories to safely sustain a pregnancy.

Don't know for sure how it pertains to blood thinning/clotting with the pill for WLS, but I have had other surgery before while on the pill and I was told I could keep taking them. Just had to be extra diligent about getting up and walking ASAP afterwards.

My doctor said stop 2 weeks prior. I take mine for Migraines due to hormonal issues and not for birth control. Stopped them last Wednesday and have had a headache since Friday....only going to get worse because of stopping the pills and no caffeine. [emoji20]

I've been on Synphasic 21 since I was 16, my surgeon said I didn't have to stop it at all and I can keep taking it right after surgery.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
