Hey sleevers.. I'm curious for feedback from you. Did any of you have GERD or heartburn? before surgery? Did it get worse or better? What about those without it? Heartburn has gotten worse the larger I've gotten, and so I'm hopeful that as my stomach has more room in its quarters that my heartburn will improve. Thoughts?

My mom had severe GERD pre-sleeve. She had an endoscopy and it didn't show any other issues. When she had her surgery on 3/21 the surgeon discovered a large hiatal hernia and repaired it. I'm sure the hernia was causing most if not all of her symptoms. Time will tell, but I'm thinking this will cure her GERD.

I'm not a doctor, but if you are eating smaller amounts, more frequently, and taking your acid reducer after surgery it should get better. I can't say for certain because for some people it gets worse.

I would ask your surgeon.

I had had problems with GERD and heartburn off and on pre-op, but nothing diagnosed and nothing chronic. I would just occasionally take a Zantac or something. It always seemed to be worse at my heavier weights (my weight fluctuated a lot as I yo-yo dieted). Post-op, I have pretty severe reflux that requires me to take 20mg of Omeprazole twice a day every day still at 19 months post-op.

I think several factors have made it better. Eating less so less pressure internally. As well, I'm eating different, healthier food. That makes a difference. It is a fact that sleevers are more prone to gerd, however, I've been so blessed! I lived on Pepcid preop-never have to touch it now!

I have had GERD and my endoscopy was ok but my barium swallow showed severe reflux. I have a small hiatal hernia so I am hoping for repair with surgery. I don't want the bypass either.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
