weight loss stopped at 7 months

Recommended Posts

Anyone else experience a complete stop of weight loss after roughly 6-7 months post op? I have been at the same wight +- 4 pounds since October. This is onto of starting an intense work out that I have been doing 3-4 days per week since December. 30 pounds to go and frustrated! Yes, I eat my Protein, drink 60 oz of Water and keep carbs low.

I am at 9 months out and had my gallbladder removed in December and I have only lost 4 lbs. it is frustrating and also I have upped my workout. I have not lost anything in about 6 weeks, I know I am giving my workouts everything as my muscles are sore the next day after working out. I feel you and your frustration!!!!

I did the same thing (stalled for about 3mos) and just started seeing the scale move again. I am 10-1/2 months post. I started weighing everything and focused on a bit more Water, hitting Protein requirements, cutting out salt and moving!

I also bumped my calories up about 200 because I am walking more and more everyday plus doing yard work on the weekends. I think that has helped too.

I would like to lose another 15lbs by my surgiversary on 5/616.

This happened to me too--stalled for about two months. I started tracking again, and upped my Protein from 60 to 80 or more. I did start losing again. I think I'd starting snacking too often, and the tracking helped.

How much Protein are you eating?

If you are exercising intensely you MAY need to up your protein and or healthy carbs.

What does your NUT suggest?

Embrace the Stall!

How many calories are you getting. If you are exercising intensely, you may not be getting enough fuel for your body and it may be clinging to every pound to survive. As counter-intuitive as it may seem, when you increase your workouts, you need to increase your calorie intake as well. Otherwise your metabolism will just take a nose-dive.

If after making sure that you aren't getting too few calories or too many calories, especially cabs, then you might try going on the pre-op diet or do a 5 day pouch test. I know I was stuck for over a month with no weight loss and I realized it was due to nuts so I cut them out as I can't control myself with them and began losing again.

I think my downfall is dairy/cheese. I have been doing a Paleo diet but stopped tracking calories/protein et.c because I felt like it was taking over my life. Might need to get back on the tracking band wagon after a two month break, lose some weight and stop again. I have been thinking about going back to basics (i.e. Protein shakes etc.).

Don't forget, muscle is denser than fat and you may not see a move on the scale but you will see and feel a difference in how your cloths fit.

I also had a long stall (about 1 1/2 months) around the 7 month mark but I just kept doing what I was doing and started tracking again and it has now broken. All of a sudden I had a 7 pound weight loss and I'm back to losing. Just stick with it, and you will see the scale move again.

Without tracking, how do you know whether or not you are reaching your Protein target? Tracking my protein is a critical success factor for me.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
