I Am A Lap Swimmer

Recommended Posts

Can I just say how satisfying it is to say I am a lap swimmer instead of I used to be a lap swimmer or I want to be a lap swimmer?

I just got out of the pool after a great swim. I feel tired but really good. And, the sun is shining and spring is on the way!

I spend time in the Water as well due to the musculoskeletal issues. I want to find out if I can buy a waterproof I-pod if there is such a thing.

@@Inner Surfer Girl Congratulations!!

Yes there is. We have only one at the local store but if you google: swimming pool ipod, you'll be able to choose from several of them.

I have heard tell of such a thing but I don't have one, Let me know if you find one you like.

I tend to just zone out or meditate.

I was talking to someone the other day who said she prays during her laps: 4 laps per child, 4 laps for her husband, and 4 laps for herself. I thought that was a great idea!

@@Inner Surfer Girl I totally agree. I've been swimming for the past year and credit it for keeping me healthy and toned as

i have back and hip issues.

@@gowalking I have something called a Finis Duo - absolutely love it. it conducts sound through the bones in your head. I actually went through two others (UWaterG5X) before finding this one. Both of them fell apart after four months. I can't swim for long without it - i get bored. With it, I can go for 60-90 minutes no problem. The sound is fantastic.

How do you people manage to do that? I can either pray or depending on the season, I'm concentrating on coaches instructions:

pinky finger in first

look straight down

roll the shoulders

tuck head in

kick with hips

watch your catch

...

what's the next set ...

Isn't the pool a wonderful place? I am more pain free there than anywhere else.

I am finally done with Aqua P.T. this week. I joined the pool, now as a member when I found out that my insurance will reimburse me for my pool membership.

I tried full swimming strokes yesterday, but it brought shooting pain from my lower back (where I had my surgery) down both legs. That's ok. I met with my trainer and he made a program for me to exercise and keep stretching my back. I will be full swimming stroking before long! As soon as my orthopod releases me to exercise in the gym itself, I will be doing three days a week in the pool and one in the gym.

I'll be back surf fishing in time for the Striper run! yeah!!!!

Huge respect for everyone for getting their swim on !

I wish there were an aquatics center nearby. I think that it'd be hugely therapeutic for me and certainly better for my joints than pounding them out on the treadmill or pavement.

The river is very close.................but there are gators, snakes and a hyooge current when the dam lets out...........

Is there no Physical Therapy pool near you? With your joint pain, I don't think you would have any difficulty getting a RX for Aqua P.T.. From there most P.T. pools will let you join the pool on an ongoing basis for a monthly fee. (my insurance company reimburses me the monthly fees as long as I completed the P.T. program).

Or--how about a YMCA or an university?

If not, I bet you soon would be able to really swim fast if you had an alligator chasing your arse!

Really, I feel so pain free in the Water. Check it out. It'll be well worth your effort.

Yeah!

I have been encouraged to take up lap swimming but truth is I don't swim that we'll. I can spend hours in the Water but it's more of a float and paddle about. I used to be a really good floater, not as much now.

Anyway, I hate chlorine but a local pool does a saltwater thing. I need to check out "lap lessons."

People used to tell me I have swimmers arms -got that from planks, pushups, burpees etc- imagine actual swimmers arms -long muscles-would look great!

I think you would love it. I know I do.

Swimming lessons are great.

When I get a bit farther along I plan to schedule some private lessons to work on technique. In the meantime, the pool director who is also the swim coach gives me tips and lots of encouragement.

thanks for letting me know about some potential options for music in the Water. i'll check it out. the pool saved me...literally. I was on a cane and nearly immobile. the pool was the only place where I got any relief. I have permanent damage even though I'm able to walk and move almost normally these days. without the pool, I'd be very limited on what exercising I can do.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
