Calories at One Year

Recommended Posts

I'm a year out now and down 200 pounds. I've still got about 27 pounds to go and I'm wondering how many calories I should be eating now? I'm incredibly active - on days I don't work I usually walk or run 5 miles plus strength training. I have a very active job so even on days that I work I get a minimum of 10,000 steps, though usually it's closer to 20,000. Once I did 34,000! Currently I eat between 1000 - 1200 calories and get about 105 - 115 grams of Protein a day. I definitely feel like I get hungry much quicker and stay full for far less time. My nutritionist is terrible at responding to my emails so I figured I'd ask the community how many calories all of you eat? How many ounces do you eat? I'm eating about 3 ounces of protein and 2 ounces of vegetables per meal.

I'm only 8 months out, but I'm at about 1300 calories per day, and I'm not nearly as active as you are. I'd say that you could easily add in another 100-200 calories, maybe more. I'm currently trying to figure out how many calories I need to maintain.

I'm nine months out and try to keep it around 1000. I'm also pretty active (although not as active as *you* are....)

p.s. It'll probably vary somewhat between people - age, metabolism level, etc can make a difference. I'd say as long as you're still losing weight, you're fine!

yes - 1000 works for me for sure! I sometimes worry about this because I see people eating in the 600--800 range, but then, I'm still losing weight, so... Plus I can't really eat under 800 calories - I just don't feel well when I do it for more than a couple of days. And because my blood Protein levels tend to run low, I'm supposed to shoot for 100 g of Protein a day. It's kinda hard to do that on much less than 1000 kcal.

I typically have 2-3 ounces of Protein, 1/4 cup of veggies, and sometimes 1/4 cup of a starchy veggie

Congratulations on your amazing progress! You should be SO proud of yourself!

I am in a similar quandary, and am meeting with a new nutritionist next week to get some guidance.

I work out hard (triathlon and strength training) a minimum of 6 days per week, and twice per day on most days. I take in about 1000-1300 calories per day, and my target split is 30% Protein, 35% fat, 35% carbs. I had surgery 14 months ago and I'm just 1.8 pounds away from my goal, but feel like I'm overdue for switching from bariatric-weight-loss mode of eating into athlete-fueling mode.

I tried to talk this through with the nutritionist on my bariatric team and she didn't have a clue how to advise me. Thus, I'm meeting with a sports nutritionist next Thursday. I'll let you know what I learn!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
