I have Ky medicare, medicare humana and also Anthem. I have a band that has failed and needs removed. I really want to do a sleeve. Medicare guidelines say I have to do a 3 month diet trial. This is a blanket rule for barbaric surgery. Does not make sense to me, a diet trial?? I have a band... has anyone else had this issue?

Health insurance companies have their rules for surgery. It is something they require for approval. We've all had to follow those rules unless we are self-pay.

Use the 3 months to research and prep. It doesn't hurt.

Good luck.

I am so glad I found this. I am dealing with the same issue. I have had my band 4 years. Had problems 10 months ago but wasn't told there was much of an issue, just needed loosened. Recently went back and saw nurse practitioner instead of surgeon. Come to find out, it should have came out last April. Now they are telling me 3 month diet trial, crazy!!!. I am in Northern ky. Tattoogrl45@gmail.com if you want to stay. In touch

Doesn't "hurt". However very frustrating to find out band should have been removed last year, now I have to do a diet trial. Crazy, not first weight loss surgery. Very frustrating

Final appointment is 3/22. Hopefully surgery in April. My surgeons office is great. Counted my apt last month as diet trial 1, went to class last week #2. # 3 coming up in March. Last appointment 2/22. Hopefully surgery in April

The pre-op conditions are a right of passage. You will probably be incorporating these four principles that many of the rest of us were required to do:

Drink Water until your eyeballs float.

Eat lean Protein at every meal, and eat your Protein first.

Do not eat anything made in a factory.

Don't become part of the sofa.

Here is one way to make the time pass faster: Schedule a root canal for the day before surgery. It will be here before you are ready!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
