Dealing with excess skin

Recommended Posts

So I know excess skin is a worry for everyone but being 20-somethings (especially the single 20-somethings such as myself) I know that it may be on our minds more than other demographics. What has your experience with excess skin been? Have you been able to find a good way to keep it at bay? What can I expect with it?

As a 20 something you have less to worry about because your skin still has more elasticity. That said, except for weight training to "fill out" the skin the rest is up to genetics, age, the length of time you were overweight, how many times you've yo yo'ed and time. When you are done losing the skin will continue to shrink for some time (especially if you lost fast, if you lose slower it will shrink more all along... The net amount it shrinks will still be the same).

The lose skin isn't fun, but it's a damn sight better than the alternative.

I'm in my early twenties and I do have loose skin, not as much as others, but enough where I will cover it up. I know it's part of it and like she said above it's better than the alternative.

Have people made any comments regarding it? Have you had any intimate encounters since?

I have not and nobody has seen it. I'm sure there will come a time and I will have to deal with it

Thanks for the advice! What about stretch marks? Is there a good way to deal with that post op?

Stretch marks are caused by the skin expanding quickly. They aren't caused by the loss. They may become more noticeable after the loss.

Aw I wish you the very best with it. I do hope you are received positively. You've put in such hard work to get to where you are and should be proud of it through and through!

Just turned 23 and that is a huge concern for me as well. I'm single and I fear dating after wls. Our generation is completely into physical image. I hope I "snap back" well after surgery. I've already made up my mind to get a breast lift after reaching my goal weight. ????

Honestly the excess skin doesn't really bug me it did at first when I was loosing the weight but now I'm just happy I'm skinny. . stretch marks are there but it's life and it's a reminder of everything we went thru.. the only skin that does bother me would be my inner thighs I can't wear short shorts or else u can see it

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
