Bezoars--hair balls?

Recommended Posts

How do you know if you have one? I have been avoiding all the foods that the NUT said could result in bezoars but then after a friend read through the paperwork on post op diet was asking how do you know. Has anyone had one of these, are their symptoms to be on the look out for?

I personally had never heard of this before so I googled the term. Unless you are eating hair it would see that you have nothing to worry about.

I have never heard of this either as it relates to sleeve patients. I have seen these things that were in horses - not hairballs but rather some kind of mass of undigestable material. Are you sure this is what your NUT meant?

Bezoars are quite rare; I've only seen one in 30+ years, and that one was am emotionally disturbed young woman who was eating her hair and other nonfood substances.

Bezoars as related to wls are masses of undigested food. They can occur anywhere in the digestive system but most commonly in the stomach. Small ones can pass without any symptoms. Larger ones can cause symptoms of GI tract blockage. I have heard of them occurring in RNY patients but not so much with the sleeve.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
