Calling all February 1st Sleevers!

Recommended Posts

Thanks this is a great idea we can keep each other going thru this journey.

My name is Sandy I live in the Chicago area. I am 53 years old and a nurse. I am 5'5" and my HW was 267 CW now at 236.

My surgery is not until 3:45 pm on Monday so it will be a long day that I am so anxious to get done with so I can begin my new life.

Sandy that would drive me nuts! I have very poor veins. When I went in for my sleeve it was at 3pm and they had the hardest time finding a vein cause I was so dehydrated, so she made sure I was on the list for first thing in the morning this time. Do you have something to keep you busy while you wait to go to the hospital? BTW what kind of nurse are you? Don't happen to work at the hospital you are getting surgery are you? ;) I always wondered how that would be lol. =)

I am a endocrinology nurse and am a certified diabetic educator. I work in a medical group now but it is part of the hospital system I am having the surgery at. I used to work in the operating room with my surgeon assisting in the bypass surgery. This was before the sleeve procedure was introduced.

LifeWhichIsMine why are you having bypass now when you are so close to goal?

I had a sleeve in Feb of last year. Starting in June/July I developed really bad GERD/Reflux Its so bad I just bend over and acid comes up. I tried all the meds, repositioning of the bed, changing diet., but nothing worked. I had a tons of testing and my surgeon decided to do a bypass because that is suppose to fix it.

That makes sense. I am so sorry you have GERD so bad. I know first hand how horrible it is. Wishing you the best of luck with your bypass. You will do great.

Are you getting enough fluids in? Sounds like you may be dehydrated. Really try, cause after the surgery it gets worse...

6 am Monday for Bypass. SW 263 CW 251 GW 150. Day 1 of liquid diet. Had some broth. Just had orange Jello. Blue jello is in the fridge setting. Keep telling myself not to touch the red jello. Getting nervous. My patience is low. That's how my nerves take over. Saw my mom today who is not in favor of the surgery. She was very quiet. Trying to focus on the positive and reading my binder of info to stay busy.

@LifeWhichIsMine. I've been using a Water tracker on my phone. I'm Migraine prone. I think some of it is tension/nerves. I usually treat with advil/excedrin migraine before it gets bad, but because I can't take those before surgery my headaches just climax.

You're doing great, it's been a struggle for me as well. Although I'm not required to do the liquid diet, I think all day tomorrow I will.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
