Did you need blood?

Recommended Posts

I am thinking of banking my own blood weeks before the surgery... But curious did anyone need blood during surgery? May not even be needed.

My surgeon brought up this issue in the pre-op class and laughed. His attitude was that he is a skilled surgeon with a room full of high-tech equipment and a full staff. Stopping bleeding is what they do.

So, no, I didn't need blood. And, I have never heard anyone on these boards talk about needing it either.

If in doubt, definitely talk to your surgeon about your fears,

There is VERY little blood loss with this type of surgery. The only bleeding at all comes from suturing over the staple line which some surgeons do as an additional guard against leaks. You can watch videos of the surgery online to see what I mean. There is hardly any blood loss at all from the punctures they use to insert the instruments.

Unless your surgeon has a major screw up there should be almost no blood loss. Everything is cauterized as it's cut except your skin incisions.

To add, the only time I've heard of bleeding is if they nick an organ (like your liver or spleen), but still they can treat it then.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
