I can't stand it anymore. I am so sick of reading posts about the beautiful doctor and the hottie surgeon. Over and over people keep complimenting physicians on their looks. I could care less what they look like. Just because someone is considered good-looking does not make them competent!!! My Dad died trusting his oh-so-nice doctor because he was friendly but the guy was an idiot, and has since had his license put on probation.

If you're considering any kind of procedure, please don't choose based on appearance. Investigate the reputation, the complication rate, how well and easily your questions get answered, any online reviews. Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but don't put your life in just anyone's hands.

Doctors are as prone to the medical issues the rest of us face. My own dermatologist had an intense acne breakout during her pregnancy, but she just used it as a teaching opportunity with her patients. She has an excellent reputation and helped me to clear stubborn PCOS adult acne. I've had overweight and underweight doctors who were great, and a nurse who smoked. I think the focus should always be on the quality of their care and their reputation.

I've also learned to not put as much focus on where a doctor went to medical school because the prestige of it doesn't always equal to the patient receiving superior care.

l agree this is about WLS not a dating site,sports outlet or social media hook up site.I don't care if the doctor looks like George a Clooney .I am not interested.This is about me and my journey with WLS not the envy of others.Support site not Facebook.< /p>

The majority of human beings make decisions based on tremendously little data.

It's a dominant human trait. We feel compelled to decide quickly -- so we can then take action and "get things going."

But weirdly, humans use a very small, redundant data set to make decisions that are vastly divergent, like: Whom to have sex with, whom to buy life insurance from, which surgeon to choose, which Presidential candidate to vote for, which religious leaders and instruction to follow.

This is why con artists thrive. They know the most powerful buttons (selection criteria) to push.

Here's a little story about my dad from last year. He needed three valves replaced and at 82, this was not a walk in the park surgery at all. He was ready to have this done at a small community hospital because his cardiologist recommended a surgeon with privileges at this hospital where he was also on staff. When my sister and I got wind of this, we objected strenuously and his response was that his cardiologist wouldn't steer him wrong...'the man was like family'. My sister came back and said, 'I AM family...do you want me cutting into your chest??'

Suffice to say, we took over his care, investigated thoroughly, and wound up at Mt. Sinai where they do the most cutting edge procedures and where he had the valves replaced without them having to crack his chest open. Even when he went back to his cardiologist and showed him the scar by his rib cage instead of down the front of the chest, they guy was amazed. He had no idea this type of surgery was being done.

As was said above....do your research and find the best...and never never settle...or presume. Not when it comes to your health.

Oh...and FYI, dad is bowling and playing golf again...

Med school is the same as all schools.........There are the smart ones and the class clowns........Not all of them graduate at the top of the class. Check your Doc out thoroughly.

True....doc could rank 500 out of a class of 500 and still walk away with a diploma.

It wasn't why I choose him, but my bariatric surgeon is definitely what I would call a silver fox. However if he could have looked like Quasimodo as long as he was competent. Flip side of that, my allergist is such a strikingly beautiful woman, the first time I saw her, I had to force myself not to stare. However she is the best allergist I have ever had. She is the one who finally gave me a diagnosis and solution to condition.

I really do think that thing about pretty people being more successful is true. Since I have switched my specialist care to UPenn, I noticed that many of my doctor's are physically attractive.
