Looking for people who are just starting the bariatric process

Recommended Posts

I'm just starting out as well. Went to my consult on Monday, but I'm not sure if I really want to use this doc. The psych eval is $300 out of pocket, and they won't let me use my current therapist. Not sure I like that, plus it's kind of far from my house. I live in Silver Spring, MD and it's in Fairfax, VA.

They did give me orders to get my EKG, abdominal u/s, chest X-rays, and EGD, scheduled, so I've got them scheduled and if I do change surgeons I can still use the same reports.

I'm going to a seminar for another surgeon closer to me at Howard University Hospital, and I've heard great things about them. Both places are Centers of Excellence, so I should be good either way.

But I did like the fact that Howard will allow me to use my own therapist for the psych eval. I mean, who can better determine if I'm able to handle such a life change, than the provider who has been seeing me for a couple of years now? Just makes sense.

The only thing I'm not too happy about is the 6 month program. The first surgeon said it HAS to be medically supervised through them, but never bothered to verify my insurance when I have actually asked them. Anthem Blue Cross told me it could be any weight loss program like even WW. Inova told me no, that's not true. I actually spoke with the pre-certification group and they directed me to the medical policy where it states that it should be a non-surgical attempt for 6 months in the last 2 years, evaluated by the requesting physician.

Anyways, I have invoices/records of the medical weight loss clinic I joined last year, and I'm going to try to use those.

I just want to get this done ASAP so I can start to feel like a normal person by the time my bday rolls around in June. Lol

Me too. My birthday is in June I have to do a 3 month Dr supervised diet and my pcp has no idea what I mean I have to tell her what to write for the diet notes. I started on March 21 and I am losing weight fast on Atkins induction diet. I have a ton to lose. I have a whole day of tests on Friday. I probably will have my sugery around my birthday. I will be the big 40!! I gave birth to twins in September 2015. Lots going on here. I have 5 boys all together. Well I will tell ya'll more after friday

I'm just starting the process as well! I attended the seminar last month and have my first appointment next week. I have no idea what to expect for this first appointment, but I'm super excited. ???? ????????

I'm just starting out, as well. My information session isn't until 4/20 and I'm already a ball of nerves along with excitement and a lot of fear, too. Nice to meet you and I hope all goes well for you in the future!

I had my first consultation yesterday and so much information was thrown at me. I don't know where to begin. And I've already failed my diet twice today.

I'm about mid-point through the process. I see the dietician and the psychologist again on 4/18. Took all the psych tests last week... MMPI plus five others... two hours ugh.

No one at my clinic is mentioning an endoscope. Is that standard?

Likely I'll be in surgery in July.

I had my surgery consult yesterday--as everyone has said...TONS of information!! It was a great appointment & I really like my surgeon--my PCP recommended him & said he would have him operate on himself.

He ordered a mammogram (scheduled tomorrow morning), a chest xray (I just have to go & get it done) and and endoscope...which he didn't have an opening on his schedule until April 26th...bummed about that because they can't send my file to the insurance company for approval until all my test results are in. So I'm hoping for late May/early June for a surgery date. But my surgeon is taking some time off in both May & June..ugh!!

Wish I could click my heels together & it was 3 weeks from now!! ;)

I am 2 months into the medically monitor 6 months with my pcp. It looks like I won't have surgery until October but that's more personal choice.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
