I know Hair loss is common, but how long does it last? I'm 5 months post op and my hair is really coming out. Just wondering how long to expect this to last.

Your hair loss will continue until your weight loss slows down. I have been to several doctors about this issues as I lost about 2/3 of my hair volume.

It started by the time I was 8 weeks post op and finally slowed down and stopped by 12/13 months post op.

The good news is while it was happening, I never had bald spots, I simply she'd like crazy. Also while I was losing, it was also regrowing. I took Biotin from the very start of it and I do believe that helped with regrowth.

All my nutrients have been spot on the entire time and I always reached my Protein goals.

I am not 15 months post op and my hair is already much thicker although not back to it full thickness. It is sprouting everywhere and almost driving me a little crazy because it sticks up. Also it is a different texture. It is more frizzy and a little course. I staighten mine because of the frizzies.

The moral of the story, it will grow back and you will look great!

I started taking Biotin hopefully that will help some. I'm just ready for it to slow down, I'm not used to having thin hair.

I totally understand. It is really scary too to see how much hair sheds and how fast it happens.

Once I learned the truth, that it will slow when your weight loss slows, then I got my head around that. I actually did not want to see it slow because I knew that I was not yet at my weight loss goal and was afraid I wasn't going to get there.

The reality is you will, you just have to work harder at it.

Curious - how much Biotin do you all take daily? Thanks!

You're not alone! I'm five months out and have been shedding quite a bit for a month now. I take fish oil and work hard to meet my Protein goals. I've heard Biotin is unnecessary if you're taking B12, which I am. I tried collagen but it upset my stomach too much.

Mine started to fall out around the 5 month mark also and it came out in hand fulls at first and scared me, and made me cry. I knew I would have Hair loss but I do not think I understood to what extent. The good news was by month 8 it was really slowing down and now a year and half out my hair is healthier and thicker than ever. So it does get better just hang in there I know it is really hard!

I am just shy of two months out and already having my hair fall out. Taking all my Vitamins plus some extra! Using hair thickening Shampoo too.

Worried about what the next several months hold.

My Hair loss started at 3 months and at 5 months it's still coming out like crazy. I hope it slows up soon. For now I opted for a shorted hair cut with a wavy style to hide it as much as possible.

Read this. I have no idea whether it would help, but can't hurt!

"According to a report published in the Journal of Ethnobiology and Ethnomedicine, coconut oil has been used for centuries to create a concoction for promoting hair growth.

Coconut oil has been traditionally mixed with aloe vera to promote Hair growth.< /p>

To grow longer, healthier hair mix 3 tablespoons of melted coconut oil with 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel.

Apply to hair and then sleep with a shower cap. Rinse out with or without an apple cider vinegar (ACV has amazing benefits for your hair), then style as you normally do, with added luster and length!"

I just bought my first wig.

I had thin hair to begin with, due to poly cystic ovarian disorder, and bypass did me in. I lost so much hair. I have to do this ridiculous comb over thing, and I finally said enough...

So I JUST got the wig a few days ago, and I am trying to get used to it. I'm scared to wear it out, but at the same time excited, it looks good on me. I'm going to trim it a bit, it's a little long. I already have 4 more wigs in a shopping cart, and continue to look. Here's the great thing for me, I love having different colors mixed in with my black hair..pinks, reds, purples, blues etc. I'm finding wigs like that, so that's great. I can finally have platinum blonde hair, without the hassle of trying to bleach it from black to white. Believe me I've done it....it's not easy. This way it's as simple as can be.

Now if I can just get brave that first time and wear my wig out in public. All I need to do is get over that first time out.

I'm taking Biotin too, and I am noticing new growth. There is hope!

I hope you find the right solution for you!

At just about three months to the day, I started to shed. I've got long hair and while shampooing it, pulled out a big clump of it. I can feel it slithering down my legs while I'm showering  It also likes to collect in my butt crack. <_<

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
