So frustrated!

My surgeon said I can take nsaid's for 72 hours if I double up on my acid reducer on the days I take the nsaid. I had kidney stones and the ER doc would only give me pain meds in the ER and told me to take nsaids at home. When I told him I couldn't take them he shrugged his shoulders (I think he thought I was a pain med junkie, lol)

I wish that 72 hours of NSAIDs would be enough to get me through. I am pretty sure that my meniscus is torn and I'll have to end up under the knife. I had an MRI done last week and am waiting on my follow up appointment, that isn't until the 18th. My doc was nice enough to give me a hydrocodone prescription so at least I am sleeping through a little bit of the pain. But, I'm not so good at work if I use the meds through the day.

Just a waiting game at this point. ????

I had my follow up appointment with the orthopedic doctor today I am am scheduled for surgery on my knee for February 5th. At this point I welcome the surgery and the relief that it will hopefully bring. It is a tear in my meniscus and should be a pretty easy peasy surgery all done outpatient and they said I will be able to put my full weight on it directly after surgery!

I had a meniscus repaired about three years ago. I have had an ACL reconstruction and a partial replacement. I thought the meniscus repair would be easy peasey but it wasn't that simple. I was still pretty sore. I also had a surprise microfracture done and I'm sure that didn't help not being a big deal. It wasn't horrible by any means, but I really thought it would be absolutely no big deal.

Thanks for the feed back! No surgery is ever really that easy is it??

Yeah...hopefully it will be easy peasy but don't be surprised if it's not. Everyone reacts differently. I needed 12 weeks of rehab when I had arthroscopic to smooth out the meniscus and still had issues after PT. My BF also tore the meniscus and didn't need any surgery...and the orthopedist just told him it would heal on its own...which it is. Depends on how much damage there is and how bad the knee in general is.

Those are my knees!!! I used to get cortisone shots in both knees every four months. Now I only need it in my right knee. No NSAIDs for me. I used to take Relafen for years. Now Tylenol as needed for pain, but as you know, that doesn't relieve inflammation. It's still much better than when I carried 302 pounds around.

I keep forgetting to look up the name of the injection I had. It's more long term than the cortisone, but has to be done in stages. I did mine back in April/May/June and haven't needed another shot since.

I tore my meniscus skiing many years ago. The repair was actually what prompted the arthritis in the left knee. I rebounded fairly quickly from the surgery, but I tend to rebound quickly in general. I was up on crutches 3 days later .

Update! Had my surgery today... I guess it was a little messier in there than they thought it would be! I'm pretty swollen and sore but, I'm ready to get going on the physical therapy and to start exercising again! post-256910-14547277610204_thumb.jpg

Also super exciting that they didn't stick me with the ugly tan hospital socks! Got downsized to the blue, much better to look at ????

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
