Please share your 1-3 month losses

Recommended Posts

I am new here and am in the submission for approval stage. Hoping to have surgery 12/28!! I haven't met anyone in person who has had WLS.

Can you post your first couple of months losses so I can see what is possible?

Thank you so much!!

Just keep in mind as you get answers that there are many, many factors that determine how much weight people lose. Comparing your potential losses to others can be a slippery slope. I know. I was a very slow loser compared to many. It was only when I stopped comparing and just did my own thing was it easier for me to just keep moving forward until I finally made my goal weight.

Looking back, how quickly or slowly I lost weight doesn't matter one bit anymore! The fact that I lost it and am now maintaining it does.

I'm almost 2 months out and have hit my 50 pound weight loss! You will do great just never compare your process to the next person everyone's journey is different :)

I agree with @Babbs. This thread could be setting yourself up for disappointment or can be used as motivation. Your journey can't be compared with others. Your body is not the same as mine.

For the record, I have lost 54 lbs since I started preop on 10/1 (surgery on 10/22). HOWEVER, I started at over 400lbs so it is natural that I lose faster than most people. Extra fatassness = faster initial weight loss. As you get closer to goal it will slow as your body fights to keep that extra 20 or 30 lbs on.

Don't allow yourself to compare your loss to others. It's a slippery slope that will likely make you feel like a failure.

Starting weight: 257

During my preop I lost 22 pounds.

So I was 235 on surgery day.

I am about 10 weeks out.

I'm 189 now. So I've lost 46 pounds since surgery.

I want to be 135-145. It's slowed a lot as of this week.

My quick loss is rare. Most people aren't over halfway to goal at 10 weeks. Everyone is different. It's not really a race. Our bodies lose when they need to. Best of luck.

I really love seeing all your screen names! Some are really cute.

Fatassedness is truly a keeper!!

There isn't a need to compare to others. I get motivated by reading how well others did. Also, knowing stalls happen has been important so I joined a kick boxing gym ahead of time.

No one in our classes talked numbers so it is a big mysterious area.

Thank you for sharing! I al trying to remember when I got over 200 lbs and I think 1996 was the year.....

Slippery slope your asking for. Not only is there the risk of being a slow loser, you may be one of those who gains weight post op. Also there are variations depending on whether or not you have a pre-op diet, whether or not you have a Clear liquids phase, men lose faster than women, higher weights may have larger initial weight losses.

Don't compae your journey to anyone else's. It's a setup for failure.

Great results! I hope you are beyond thrilled!!

Anytime I get scared, since surgery is 12/28, I read about the successes here!

It is NOT to compare. It is to remind me why I am doing this!!

Justintime, thank you for your share. It took me 6 months to lose 20 lbs during my required classes. It was so hard too! I have gained some back since I got submitted for insurance approval.

Bigbit!! You have done AMAZING steps towards your health! I am so happy for you!!

I cannot wait to be able to share my progress!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
