Pain after drinking?

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if it's normal, but every time I drink anything even Water I get a pain in my stomach. I'm one week a 2 days post op. Is any one experiencing this?

I am only 1 day post and every time I take a tiny sip my stomach cramps from esophagus ( had a hiatal hernia repair) down to my colon. Is this normal? I had a dilaudid PCA pump until a few hours ago so I am wondering if maybe it haas always doing this but I missed because of the meds?

It's probably normal for you both. You just had major stomach surgery, and your stomach has a line of staples going the length of it and is now 85% smaller. So yeah, things are going to hurt while it heals.

But yes, call your surgeons if you feel it's not normal pain for sure :)

Also consider the temperature of what you are drinking. Some temperatures may make your tummy unhappy. Cold, for example, may cause spasms for awhile. And some liquids may just be uncomfortable going down. It took me a good two weeks to not be in misery when taking a sip - and I do mean sip. At 5 weeks, I am only now able to take a drink like a normal person ... Most of the time!

My surgery was 11/19/15 and my surgeon told me I got his 3 for 1 deal as he removed my gallbladder and repaired a hiatal hernia at the same time. I too have pain in the center of my chest when I sip and not sure if it's from the hernia surgery or from the sleeve. It has gotten a little better each day and I was able to get down 3 Protein drinks yesterday for the first time. It's getting better but today for Thanksgiving it's going to be hard. I was going to make pumpkin pie but didn't for fear I'd have to taste the batter to make sure it was spiced properly.

I've asked and all say it's harsh going down but gets easier as you go. Most said it's due to gas, as remember they filled your stomach with air...

I will say tho EVERYTIME I drink something hot I get a great relief and my stomach welcomes it and no pain. Thinking about it, I'm going to warm this lima bean Soup and drink 1/2 of a 1/2 cup.

For quite sometime it was difficult to drink without pain. Sips too big or too many would trigger it. I'm 5 months out and still find myself in pain if I take in too much too fast. It's still a learning process.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
