Hair falling out!

Recommended Posts

This is a common side-effect of WLS. Typically it is the worst between months 3-6. Alex just wrote a great article on it....

It happens sadly. But it does stop as quick as it starts. Mine started around month 4. But by month 6 it was done. I lost hair, yes. But it wasn't so bad that anyone else noticed it but me and my hairdresser.

Mine started this last week. Mine doesn't come out in clumps. I am just losing more than usual when I wash and brush my hair. Mine is like yours and definitely feeling thinner. I have long thick hair and I'm used to constantly shedding. But it's coming out much more than usual. I am nearly five months post op. Hopefully it will stop soon for both of us.

I'm 7months out and started losing it at 4 months and peaked at 5-6 months. It was pretty bad. I've lost about half my hair. BUT it's not super noticeable. I had I'd say average thickness before and now I have relatively thin hair. It's thinner in the back of my head. I notice it and hate it and my head gets colder (I live in Alaska), and you can see more of my scalp than you used to (I'm blond) but no one else really sees it. It's worse for the patient because we see it coming out. My husband and son run their fingers through my hair a lot and they both commented in the last week that it's a lot thinner, but they both said it FEELS thinner and doesn't LOOK thinner. This is just a long way if saying that I was super scared of this and it's the worst part if the journey for me, but it's still not that bad, plus, it grows back in. It's worth the benefits I've had for sure.

I'm 25yo and 3.5 months out. The moment I hit 3 months, it's been falling it in clumps in the shower. I clean out my brush twice a day. I'm freaking out! I have definitely noticed a thinning in my hair. I'm taking Biotin and using biotin Shampoo and Rogain like the Durham told me too but OMG, I am losing A LOT of hair.

I've lost a lot of hair. It started at 3.5 months and has been heavy losses months 5 and 6. I use nioxin Shampoo and conditioner, Biotin and get plenty of Protein and I don't think anything I do makes a difference. Some people just lose a lot of hair. I sure hope it slows soon as it is getting very thin. But that said, I don't care about this too much because if this the price that has to be paid to lose the weight, then so be it. Not a deal breaker.

When mine started to fall out, I stopped washing every day, and went to every other it every 3rd day. I would wet it in the shower, but not Shampoo so I wouldn't break off the hair, and then blow dry on a cooler setting. When I did shampoo I made sure to condition as I noticed it was very dry.

Don't worry though-this phase actually passes quickly!

I think I might have shed a little more than normal at about 3 months, but it didn't last long. My hair isn't thinner, but I do have whispy baby hairs that drive me nuts, because I wear my hair long. While it was shedding, I didn't wash it, but maybe twice a week, and I didn't use heat on my hair. I wore my wavy hair....wavy. I didn't blow dry it or straighten it for about 2 months. Now it seems like It's growing like crazy! It's down my back, and I've noticed lately that I sit back on it, when I'm driving...which is annoying. You see, at 53 this is the first time in my life that I have ever grown out my hair. So, I am really happy mine didn't get thin. I took Biotin and zinc for 4 years every day (growing out a pixie)...so maybe that helped.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
