Medic Alert / Medical ID for LapBand

Recommended Posts

:help: Do you wear a medic-alert / medical ID to notify emergency personnel of your LapBand? What is inscribed on your tag?

I thought about getting a Bracelet or anklet when 1st banded, but didn’t know what info about my Band would actually be pertinent to EMS/ER if I were unable to speak for myself.

“WLS: LapBand w/ port”

and my clinic’s #

Or is that not good enough in an actual emergency? I can’t imagine the EMS calling my doctor! :heh: Nor do I think they really ought to be doing that if I'm having a heart attack instead of requiring my stomach be pumped! :) But the ID tags can only hold so much info...

My mom is diabetic & gets a catalog of beaded, interchangeable medical ID bracelets from Lauren’s Hope. It seems they’ve now got a design “just for us” WLS patients. Seeing the "skinny pants" style has me considering my own ID again, but I don't know what to put on it! :D Heck, maybe they’d have some advice as to the tag inscription!

I'm too proud to wear jewelry like that.. maybe proud isn't the word, I don't like wearing jewelry and I know it'd be a waste of my money. I did print out a photoshopped card I made, with the little medical emblem on it that has my information, emergency contacts, the meds I take, and that I've had gastric-banding. It has my doctor's # on it for reference.. I guess if they read it, and don't know what the banding is, or need to know information on the placement and I'm knocked out, they could call him. I put it in a noticable spot in my wallet, but I've never been in an accident so I don't know that they'd even look. But I feel a little better knowing it is there, in case they're looking for info.

Do a quick search with the search tool on this site. There are a ton of us with alert bracelets and those old threads will have links for where to find them. They also tell what is told on our alert tags.

Ya know...I should have thought of that myself! Thanks for the reminder!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
